Wow, that was gone quickly....

That should provide some idea of the kind of market available for a good replacement keyboard for the 400/800. $125 for a 35 year-old mechanical switch keyboard - that would cover a brand new cherry mx keyboard. There's a couple threads on replacement keyboards. Hope the folks involved saw this thread.

Wow, that did go pretty quick.  I still have the 400 my parents bought me in 1982.  Luckily my dad had the forethought to have that keyboard installed on it back then.

My avatar is my A400, bought in 1982. I got the BKey keyboard (as you can tell from the pic) and a MOSAIC 64KB board the next year. Moving from the membrane keyboard to the BKey was a great joy.

Mine is a little different but it is pretty close.  Out of my large collection, this is one of two computers I have now that I owned as a kid.  Probably my most valuable (to me) computer.  I have hundreds of hours on this very computer (got it when I was 15).

I have two Atari 400's with B-Key's. They are very stiff when pushing on the keys... much like the Compaq LTE series laptops from the early 1990's (before the Pentium CPU). Better than the 400's membrane keyboard, but even a mushy XE series keyboard has better feel.

It's interesting but it just doesn't look right to me. I think the membrane keyboard looks much better on the 400, if I need to do any typing I use the 800 anyway.
