ussexplorer #1 Posted July 9, 2003 When I was a young lad in 80 something I was able to talk my parents into going to Computer Land. The sales person talked to my parents about prices of computers and let me play Super Mario Brothers on what I seem to remeber as an Amiga. Could have been a later version of C64 or 128. My parents declined and said they couldn't aford it. Anway, I have yet to find Super Mario Brother on anything except Nintendo or at the Arcade. Can somebody please tell me I'm not crazy. Also it was defently not just Mario brothers. Speaking of Computer Land. I remeber they was one of the stores that pushed stuff out the door right before the company discontinued it. Mayhem #2 Posted July 9, 2003 Well there are two possibilities here... 1) You happened to see "Great Giana Sisters" running on the machine. 2) The guy had the GGS hacked version running Mario sprites and the such like on the C64. There was no official computer conversion of SMB during the 80s...
Cropsy #3 Posted July 9, 2003 Slightly OT... I'd didn't have access to a NES when I was a kid but I did have the C64 version of Great Giana Sisters which I played to death. Years later when I finally played NES Super Mario Bros I was quite suprised to see just how close the two were. Even the level orders and layouts were considerably "inspired" by SMB. This is probably considered sacrilege but I still prefer Gianna Sisters to this day
King Atari #4 Posted July 9, 2003 I think you're remembering the C=64 hacked SMB. I've played it, too. Not bad, though I'll always prefer the NES version.
Ze_ro #5 Posted July 9, 2003 The company that made Great Giana Sisters was actually sued by Nintendo over the game, and Nintendo won. Of course, the game was already immensely popular, and piracy kept it in circulation. One would hope that if Nintendo didn't have any intentions of releasing SMB on the C64, then they wouldn't care if someone else made something similar.... but such is the world we live in. --Zero
ussexplorer #6 Posted July 10, 2003 I searched for the Great Giana Sisters. I can tell you it was not that game I played. So it must have been the Super Mario Hack. I cannot believe Nintendo won the law suite. I see more simular stuff in a pac man rip off than I do in this game. Stupid Nintendo... Later, Josh P.S. Thanks for the information
Nukey Shay #7 Posted July 10, 2003 What made them stupid was that Nintendo COULD have released the game officially after winning the lawsuit. At least they would have made the money that went to pirates instead
King Atari #8 Posted July 10, 2003 Here's Lemon64's page (best C=64 site around, IMO), from there you can probably find the ROM: http://www.lemon64.com/games/details.php?ID=2545
