bluejay #1 Posted December 19, 2019 What was your favorite game as a kid? Doesn't matter how old it is, what system it was on, or whatever reason you thought it didn't qualify for this thread. As for me, my uncle gave me a Nintendo DS lite when I was little, and I enjoyed playing New SMB on it.

digdugnate #6 Posted December 23, 2019 I don't know what one game I'd pick. 😰 Is it OK if I give one game for several systems? I'll keep it to systems I played up to my senior year in high school, lol. Arcade -- Burgertime TI-99 4/A -- Slymoids C64 -- Lode Runner PC (80s) -- The Lurking Horror PC (90s) -- TIE Fighter 2600 -- River Raid NES -- Super Mario Bros 2 Game Boy -- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of the Foot Clan SNES -- Final Fantasy II US Genesis -- Streets of Rage 2
high voltage #7 Posted December 23, 2019 (edited) As a kid I had Major Matt Mason, but he had a computer in his Moon Base Space Station. Maybe he had Computer Space on it. Edited December 23, 2019 by high voltage

VectorGamer #12 Posted December 23, 2019 OK guess I'll flesh out my original response... Atari 2600: I wanted the console in the first place for Space Invaders so I'll go with that game ColecoVision: my brother bought the CV while he was living in my mom's basement. We used to play the piss out of that console every day I got home from school. And Mouse Trap was probably the game I loved the most. Although we also spent a shitload of time playing DK, DK Jr., Smurf and Carnival. Arcade: gotta go with Galaga since I could just ride my bike to the convenience store with friends and play all the time NES: Super Mario
bluejay #13 Posted December 24, 2019 I also love SMB3 for the NES for an odd reason. A few years ago, I was looking through some old boxes, and found a GBA. It had this wierd Chinese 38 in 1 cartridge with mostly NES games and a few GBA titles. I used to play a lot of SMB3 on that GBA. I should also mention Gran Turismo Concept Tokyo-Seoul for the PS2, known as Gran Turismo Concept Tokyo-Geneva in the western world. When I dug up my parents' old PS2 out of our apartment's storage room a many years ago, the cable must have went bad, so it displayed a terrible black and white image, and 1 player races didn't work for some reason, along with a controller. I had to play two player races in B&W until I got it fixed. Ah, the memories.

I sure did spend a lot of time with this, along with Pooyan, Jumpman Jr., and Gyruss. It’s still the making of an excellent Saturday afternoon.

cvga #16 Posted December 24, 2019 Overall, it's probably Galaga coin-op. There was a little dairy (convenience) store a block away from our house that had a Galaga. We used to go there to wait in line to play it. Lots of fun! 2600 - for awhile it was Demon Attack, later is was Ms. Pac-man. I was amazed at how much better it was than pac-man. Intellivision - Major League Baseball - my best friend and I played this nearly everyday for multiple weeks. Vic 20 - Scott Adams adventure series C64 - Jumpman (also Zork) Today - Beamrider

HoshiChiri #19 Posted December 24, 2019 I've spent days trying to answer this question- we got the NES when I was in Kindergarten & a Genesis in 4th grade, but I didn't play very much until middle school- so most of my gaming memories are as a teen, not a kid. I finally figured it out though- I think Streets of Rage is my best answer. I played the snot out of that. I learned to play with my feet so I could get the bad endings becuase my siblings wouldn't play that long (a skill I retained throughout my school years- sadly, as an adult my toes are too big for the buttons.) MrMaddog #20 Posted December 24, 2019 (edited) Since I had a 2600 as a kid, it would have to be Pitfall because there's so many screens to get through in just 20 minutes. And that's a lot compared to other games of that era. For the Tandy Color Computer which i also had at time, my favorite computer game was Temple of ROM which had a huge scrolling maze to find all the treasures in. And if teenage adolescence also counts, best game I had on the NES was Super Mario Bros. 3 and on the Atari 8-bit computers Temple of Apshai Triology. Again those games have huge sprawling levels to explore for long periods of time. Edited December 24, 2019 by MrMaddog
pablum #21 Posted December 25, 2019 So many great old games. Hard to pick just one. I played the absolute hell out of Street Fighter II back then, so I'll say that one.
derFunkenstein #22 Posted December 25, 2019 Of the earliest games we had in our house when I was a kid (up to age 12, when I started Jr. High), Omega Race on the VIC20 was my very favorite. Shortly behind it were Jr. Pac-Man, Q-Bert, and Vanguard on the Atari 2600. When I hit Jr. High I got an NES and the favorites that I played over and over became Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 3, Super C, and TMNT II.

NE146 #24 Posted December 25, 2019 Well.. it always changed didn't it? I liked arcade Space Invaders but by the time something like Star Fire came out, I didn't look back. And for home, I liked 2600 Space Invaders but by the time Demon Attack came out, I never looked at SI again... and the parade continued and continued. It wasn't until I was much older and nostalgic that I started digging the stuff I liked before again.
