Gotek floppy issues

Recommended Posts

I got this Gotek a few years back and never got around to figuring it out.  Im trying to get my Mega2 ST back in usable order and am running into problems again.

First question:

I know there are 15 A/B slots.  Can I bring the disk manager menu up while using the ST or do I have to reboot?  Scenario is I have a game which has multiple disks - do I need to put them into Drive A across multiple slots and use the button to switch slots(disks)?

Second question:

Can I use .st images directly or do I need to convert them to .hfe images?

Third question:

I have an external drive that I want to use to move some old disks on to my UltraSatan.  It has always worked as my B drive.  I have the following results:

1.  With nothing connected to my Mega2, I put a disk into Drive A and Drive B on the Gotek menu.  Drive A opens up fine but Drive B tells me to put a disk into Drive A.  This indicates to me that I have properly setup the Gotek to not take over Drive B

2.  With my SF314 connected to my Mega2 I put a disk into Drive on the Gotek menu.  Drive A opens up fine, but I get the same msg on Drive B telling me to put a disk into Drive A.  It should open the disk on my SF314............

Possible problems - I dont see any activity lights on the SF314.  Should I see some kind of light flash when it powers on, the MEga2 powers on or I change disks?  I have a replacement mechanism in the SF314 and dont see the green light come on at all.  I have used this drive in the past.

Here is a picture of what I am using
