RichardElric
Oh boy it’s my stupid question time! so I’m planning on making a spreadsheet with every video game console or as many I can find. I’m planning on including Home computers on it, so should I include Personal Computers as well?
carlsson
I suppose you have to ask yourself why you are compiling this spreadsheet and which sort of info you are going to store in each cell. If it is a list of unique formats, you only need a few lines for different CPUs and operating systems but if it is a list of all known models of computers ever released the list will be very long, even without the personal computers. Why not start with putting in as much info as you stumble across and after a while make a decision if you need pruning.
wierd_w
Indeed. What is the purpose of this spreadsheet?
mr_me
Only computers that had video games published on cartridge, rf modulation, and game controller ports.
wierd_w
Depends then. PCjr meets that description. As does a few obscure PCs. https://www.raphnet.net/electronique/pcjr_cartridge/index_en.php https://segaretro.org/Teradrive https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amstrad_Mega_PC Then there are of course, the classic 8bit machines everyone thinks of.

I suppose if you add an Interface 2, even a ZX Spectrum would qualify for that list.
mr_me
You can put anything you want in the list, no hard rules. But those computers with a sega genesis inside are just sega genesis variants.
mr_me
And I'd include any computer that has hardware sprites.
carlsson
Anyway, as noted before a list of all IBM PC compatible models ever released would be long and quite a challenge to compile though of course it would be a continuous process. As for websites with lists of computers & consoles, there already are a few with small variation in approach and content. I suppose one more wouldn't hurt, as long as it isn't more or less a copy and paste of an existing site.

It’s not perfect, but it’s way better than nothing.
