King Atari #1 Posted July 11, 2003 Was this game ever released in the US? I'm looking at the opening screen, and it has a copyright date of 1992. Were SMS games still being released in the US at that time, or was this a UK exclusive? PS-Anyone wanna trade it for the SMS version of Mortal Kombat/Mortal Kombat II/Robocop Vs. The Terminator/The Terminator/Renegade/Dracula/Batman Returns?
Atarian75 #2 Posted July 11, 2003 No, that game was never released in the US. It was definately released in Europe and possibly some other countries as well. The SMS was much more popular overseas so they produced games for it over there alot longer than they did here. Hope that helps. -Atarian75
JB #3 Posted July 11, 2003 As I understand it, the Master System's biggest success outside of Japan was Brazil.
ubersaurus #4 Posted July 11, 2003 As I understand it, the Master System's biggest success outside of Japan was Brazil. Nah. Europe was its biggest success, then brazil, then Japan. It didn't quite catch on there due to nintendo having a 3 year lead.
Ze_ro #5 Posted July 11, 2003 That sucks... was it released on the Game Gear in North America? Xenon II is still my favorite shooter ever. I have the Gameboy version, and I'm on the lookout for the Genesis version. --Zero
DeV0 #6 Posted July 11, 2003 It was also popular in the butt end of the world being Australia. It must have been seing as the carts are easy to find. Its weird how things work out as the PAL MS is not quite as good as the NTSC one. The PAL ms has the hugest borderline letterbox effects ive seen on any console. Tempest #7 Posted July 11, 2003 It was also popular in the butt end of the world being Australia The problem with Australian SMS games is that the labels are so cheap. They're like paper and rip easily. Of course they were probably manufactured as cheaply as possible. Tempest
King Atari #8 Posted July 11, 2003 Cool! Something really unique in my collection! I find that the UK got much cooler games than us. Really, the only US games I play are Double Dragon (but you knew that ), Rambo II (best game of it's type), Vigilante, Ghostbusters, and Rocky. Oh, and Alex Kidd on emulator. Okay, another question, was Spiderman Vs. The Kingpin ever released for the SMS in the US? This one has a copyright of 1990, when it was pretty much dead here. MegaManFan #9 Posted July 11, 2003 Okay, just to settle this question, this is the official (notice it does not include Outrun 3-D) list of 114 U.S. released SMS games, which also happens to be a compete collection I own. Where noted, it also says what other countries they were or weren't released in, but these are the only ones sold in the U.S. for the SMS that weren't imports: > F-16 Fighting Falcon EUR USA ? - > Ghost House EUR USA ? - > My Hero EUR USA ? - > Spy vs Spy EUR USA ? - > Super Tennis EUR USA ? - > Teddy Boy EUR USA ? - > Transbot EUR USA ? - > Action Fighter EUR USA BRA - > Aerial Assault EUR USA BRA - > After Burner EUR USA BRA - > Alex Kidd in High Tech World EUR USA BRA - > Alex Kidd in Miracle World EUR USA BRA - > Alex Kidd in Shinobi World EUR USA BRA - > Alex Kidd the Lost Stars EUR USA BRA - > Alf - USA BRA - > Alien Syndrome EUR USA BRA - > Altered Beast EUR USA BRA - > Astro Warrior EUR USA BRA - > Aztec Adventure EUR USA BRA - > Black Belt EUR USA BRA - > Blade Eagle 3-D EUR USA BRA - > Bomber Raid EUR USA ? - > Buster Douglas Knockout Boxing - USA ? - > California Games EUR USA ? - > Captain Silver EUR USA BRA - > Castle of Illusion (Mickey Mouse) EUR USA ? - > Casino Games EUR USA ? - > Choplifter EUR USA BRA - > Cloud Master EUR USA BRA - > Columns EUR USA BRA - > Cyborg Hunter EUR USA ? - > Dead Angle EUR USA BRA - > Dick Tracy EUR USA BRA - > Double Dragon EUR USA BRA - > Enduro Racer EUR USA BRA - > E-Swat EUR USA BRA - > Fantasy Zone EUR USA BRA - > Fantasy Zone 2 EUR USA BRA - > Fantasy Zone: the Maze EUR USA BRA - > Galaxy Force EUR USA BRA - > Gangster Town EUR USA BRA - > Ghostbusters EUR USA BRA - > Ghouls'n Ghosts EUR USA BRA - > Global Defense EUR USA BRA - > Golden Axe EUR USA BRA - > Golden Axe Warrior EUR USA BRA - > Golvellius EUR USA BRA - > Great Baseball EUR USA BRA - > Great Basketball EUR USA BRA - > Great Football EUR USA BRA - > Great Golf EUR USA ? - > Great Ice Hockey EUR USA ? - > Great Soccer EUR USA ? - > Great Volleyball EUR USA ? - > Hang On / Astro Warrior EUR USA ? - > Hang On / Safari Hunt EUR USA BRA CAN > Joe Montana Football EUR USA BRA - > Kenseiden EUR USA BRA - > King's Quest - USA ? - > Kung Fu Kid EUR USA BRA - > Lord of the Sword EUR USA BRA - > Marksman Shooting / Trap Shooting EUR USA BRA - > Maze Hunter 3-D EUR USA BRA - > Miracle Warriors EUR USA BRA - > Missile Defense 3-D EUR USA BRA - > Monopoly EUR USA - - > Montezuma's Revenge - USA - - > Moonwalker EUR USA BRA - > The Ninja EUR USA BRA - > Out Run EUR USA BRA - > Paperboy EUR USA BRA - > Parlour Games EUR USA ? - > Penguin Land EUR USA ? - > Phantasy Star EUR USA BRA - > Poseidon Wars 3-D EUR USA BRA - > Power Strike EUR USA BRA CAN > Pro Wrestling EUR USA BRA - > Psycho Fox EUR USA BRA - > Quartet EUR USA ? - > Rambo: First Blood Part 2 EUR USA BRA - > Rambo 3 EUR USA BRA - > Rampage EUR USA BRA - > Rastan EUR USA BRA - > R.C. ubersaurus #11 Posted July 11, 2003 I think that list is a bit out of date...its missing a few titles like Sonic 2, Power Strike 2, Street Fighter 2, Sonic Chaos, etc. Still, tis a neat listing.
King Atari #12 Posted July 11, 2003 It was listing the US releases, those are all titles released outside of the US. I would like to get my hands on a copy of Street Fighter II, though.

Tempest I have a huge sms cart collection and notice that about %80 are gloss and in good condition, the other 20 are just old and tattered. My carts from europe are identical. I just went through ebay america to see what the carts looked like and umm, boxes & carts look exactly the same. I also noticed they are expensive,,,,,,,,,,, My point is that the labels are the same global,,
MegaManFan #14 Posted July 12, 2003 I think that list is a bit out of date...its missing a few titles like Sonic 2, Power Strike 2, Street Fighter 2, Sonic Chaos, etc. Those aren't on the list because they aren't U.S. releases (although I do own a few). If you want the complete list of every known SMS game ever (including a few bizarre Korean and Japanese only releases) go to SMSPower.org.
