2 short Atari videos for STE

Recommended Posts

There are some interesting Atari ST related videos at atarimania, mostly VHS origin, so low resolution, noisy. So, I made couple short videos with sound (that's why STE with it's DMA audio is needed), using my new delta code for animation. atpwpcmrc.png.9b7be8b9bb4635e7e239e2c05a7ae491.png bzhist16c.png.a0ab0606f0944f429c8003aff411d4e2.png

Main limit and hardest part in conversion is 16 colors. I used 2 ways. First is with error diffusion, second is just conversion to 16 colors, with same palette for all frames - otherwise it would be very ugly transitions.  And of course, for delta animation only videos with small changes (more-less static screens) are good - otherwise data size goes very large, and is better to use bare full frame system (just unpacked video data in row).  Tried with STE high-color by cyg, but it produces too much diff between frames, so not good for delta. Maybe Photochrome will be better with it, but it needs time to experiment. Of course, it means more data, so less long video possible, but will look much better.

Requirement: STE, Mega STE, TT, Falcon.  First video (Atari): 2 MB RAM min, 1700 KB free RAM min. Second (Battle Zone): 4 MB RAM, 3.5 MB free. Second will start after some 20 secs (depacking) .

Frame rate of Atari is 30 fps, so works best at 60 Hz refresh rate (NTSC), but no problems with PAL (50 Hz). Battle Zone is 15 fps (as is source), and can work at 50 Hz refresh rate too, only that audio will go out of sync.
