Thanks im glad you like it, yeah it's supposed to be the moon that goes though phases. It helps show the passing of time from wave to wave represented as a month per phase. Not completely accurate to real life and is drawn with playfield so it's low resolution compared to sprites. Either way i think it came out ok 👍

New build!

With this build i have eliminated the need of difficulty switches and also prevent people from changing the switches mid game (cheating). After the title screen you will see the default setting of easy and by pressing right or left on the joystick you can cycle through the difficulty settings.

 

Difficulty Settings:

  • Easy - Warhead starting speed is slow and capped after level 25
  • Normal - Warhead starting speed is slow and there is no cap after level 25
  • Hard - Warhead starting speed is fast and is capped after level 25
  • Expert - Warhead starting speed is fast and there is no cap after level 25

 

Changelog:

  • difficulty menu - GUI eliminates the need of difficulty switches
  • graphics - some changes to the original text displayed on screen to match the difficulty text that was added

New build!

So this is just an update and improvements to the last feature added.

 

Changelog:

  • bug fix - small screen jitter from titlescreen to difficulty menu
  • restrainers - improved button restrainer setup for transition between screens
  • sounds - menu selection sounds when cycling through difficulties (polish)

Changelog:

  • text - colour changes
  • powerstation - random placement of the powerstation either left side or right (first power-on usually starts on righthand side however during or resting the game it's completely random)
  • warheads - when, where and how the warheads are dropped is changed

Love all of the latest changes.  Can't wait for the random placement of the powerstation. Here's my HS (Normal mode).  I'll try Hard and Expert later.

Thanks sramirez2008, yeah i have to sit down and have a good look at where i was going wrong. Was an idea i threw together quickly so there is more variance rather then just protecting the right hand side. Shouldn't be too much of an issue to correct as i threw it together quickly after making the other changes. Nice to know it's a liked feature.

 

Btw nice score you really have the game worked out, even when im casually playing im lucky to break the low 20k's on Normal difficulty 👍 I find Hard and Expert punishing after a few waves

Played a couple game’s on Hard difficulty. Best score so far was 16,368 Level 14.🙂
 

Really like this difficulty.

Thanks, yeah it's fairly brutal however once warmed up saves having to go through the tedious slow speeds until the action starts. Alot better if you're looking for fast games especially when your skill level is up. I really need to put some time into random placement of the powerstation. It's just a matter of something always pops up when im about to sit down and make some progress 👍

New Build!

Added the random spawn feature for the powerstation, it's still a fresh new feature and yet to find out if any bugs occur. I have played a few games for testing and seems to be fine, other then i noticed it was more common to spawn on the right hand side. Still too early to tell i guess.

Nice work, that would have to of been intense warhead speeds. I still haven't managed level 31 on normal mode and it gets fast. Expert is no cap and starts on a 30% faster droprate then easy and normal. If this were Activision i would say a score like that would merit a badge that's for sure 👍

 

On a side note i noticed your powerstation had spawned on the lefthand side 😎

Hi guys, just wanting some feedback as i have updated to a new laptop. One thing i have noticed is major colour and brightness differences between the two laptops. Are the colours and luminosity i used really that dark for City Defence? The whole game looks very very dark, it actually looks terrible to me on this new laptop. Some confirmation would be great so i know it's not this laptop just displaying everything dark. If it really is as dark for others as i am now just noticing then i will probably tweak all the colours and luminosity values

I think it's a very dark and gloomy game color wise. Course when missiles are coming at me and I'm trying to keep from being destroyed I would have a sense of dread and no not feel bright and cheery.

Think im done with this game as im not seeing much more that needs to be done and motivation isn't all that high ATM. I was going to add regeneration of the city on a points basis, however for what it's worth i really don't think it's necessary. Probably leave the game WIP for now as i have plenty of ROM spare for Easter Eggs when i feel up to the task. As for bugs, family members and myself haven't found any - none have been reported online and the game plays fairly solid, so think im good in that area. Along with keeping this open as WIP for Easter Eggs, there is a chance i may tinker with the colors for aesthetics.

 

I might look into some other interesting projects i have tucked away. I have a few experimental projects that id really like to make happen someday, so maybe one might catch my interest.
