the 'im on vacation' excuse

Recommended Posts

i have only bought about 13 or so items on ebay, and close to half of them always use the excuse 'i was on vacation/out of town' when there is a delay in e-mail or shipment. the first couple times i blew it off, but now im relizing that MANY people use this excuse. why cant they just say 'sorry i wasnt online for a few days' or somthing? if someone was going on vacation they wouldnt have an auction ending right when they are supposed to leave! how many times has this happend to all of you?

I usually wait 30 days before asking any questions.

At 30 days it is too late to make a claim on your payment. (if made already).

I usually try to send mail via ebay and then even via the persons email address with return receipt just to see if they are getting the mail. (The receipt mails work about 90% of the time) It usually generates response from the seller within 24 hours.

The other ones that I get the no response / slow response to email is reflected in the feedback afterwards.

I have been on vacation before when I sold an Item. It happens. The guy seemed very impatient too, I told him my friend was mailing it out, and he finally shut up.

huh? make a claim with who? You aren't even allowed to file a fraud report until atleast 30 days have passed.

Thought that too until I got burned by the policy.

https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p...buyer_complaint

2# Filing a Claim. If you pay a seller who does not ship the promised goods, you should first contact the seller and attempt to resolve the dispute. If you are unable to resolve the dispute in this manner, you should then file a Buyer Complaint Form with PayPal as soon as possible. The Buyer Complaint Form may be found by going to the "Security Center" link in the footer of any page on the PayPal website.

PayPal will investigate your claim, contact the seller and, if the seller does not present appropriate proof of shipment, a full refund or other evidence of a satisfactory resolution, PayPal will seek to collect the amount you paid from the seller. PayPal may also limit the seller's access to his or her PayPal account. You will be entitled to the return of any and all funds PayPal is able to collect from the seller for funds received by PayPal prior to the seller's account status having been changed to limited access. RECOVERY OF YOUR CLAIM IS NOT GUARANTEED.

If your claim involves receiving not-as-described goods, we suggest using an online-trackable shipping service if you choose to return the goods to the seller. Please be aware that though you are not covered for not-as-described claims under this Buyer Complaint Policy, using an online-trackable shipping service may help you in working directly with the seller to resolve the problem. We also encourage you to file claims with us as you feel necessary for not-as-described merchandise. We will pass your complaint on to the seller and keep track of the claims for fraud control purposes.

Complaints must be filed no later than 30 days from the date of payment. Only one Complaint may be filed per PayPal transaction. PayPal will seek to resolve the complaint within 30 days of the date the complaint is filed, though such time frame may be extended, if appropriate, to accommodate the investigation. This policy applies only to the sale of tangible, physical goods and excludes all other sales and services, pursuant to section 1 above.

heh PayPal probably does that on purpose to try and weasel their way out of 95% of their insurance claims (those slimy bastards) :x

ok, so email the seller 28 days after end of auction, this should be plenty of time to file a claim with paypal assuming you waited a day or two to pay.
