holygrailvideogames.com
I have an Atari 800xl that used to work. It has been modified with a switch on the back. I thought it was an Omniview but I pulled up my receipt from when I bought it 10+ years ago and it says it was modified with an Omniview256. It has been several years since I last used it. I tried it this week and now all I get is a black screen when I try to turn it on. I tried both switch settings. I noticed that something is bouncing around in the power supply. Could the power supply be the issue? I am trying to decide if I should just sell it for parts as is and move on, have someone try to fix it or buy a new power supply and see if that will solve the issue. I don't have time to try to fix it myself. Thanks. Edited February 13, 2020 by holygrailvideogames.com

+DrVenkman
Those are very usually very reliable power supplies. Do you have a multimeter to test the output?

Sugarland
The PSU could be the cause or it could be oxidation/corrosion on the chips legs. A good alternative PSU is a decent quality USB phone charger and a USB to the 7 pin din connector. That cable is rather short, however. That black PSU you have there is fully serviceable and desired by the community as the best one Atari sold for XL's.
