jenorton
Hi: I was playing with ABASIC using the Geneve emulation, and I discovered that CALL SAY doesn't seem to work. For every letter, the synth just says "uhoh". So, for example, if I do CALL SAY("HELLO"), the synth just says "uhoh" five times. Am I doing something wrong, or is CALL SAY not working correctly? Thanks
+dhe
I think for proper help, you'll need to list the version of ABasic and MDOS your currently using. Also, if it's not a big deal, try moving the speech synthesizer to a 4a console and give it a try, as it's possible the speech ROM went bad. +mizapf
CALL SAY("HELLO") works for me (MAME 0.218, GeneveOS 6.5, MYBASIC 3.00). You did not write 'CALL SAY("hello")', did you?
jenorton
It was MYBASIC 4.04001. I wrote everything in upper case. I will try a couple variations and see if anything changes.
jenorton
Ah! Found the problem. I had the memex peripheral installed. When I removed it, CALL SAY worked as expected. Now, anyone figured a way to get the text-to-speech program working in ABASIC?
+mizapf
Hmm, my (emulated) Geneve also works with MEMEX in "MYBASIC 4.04DDI". Are you using MAME 0.218? The DIP switches are set to "Lock out all BA mirrors" (SW2), "Enable pages ..." (SW3-SW8).
+9640News
For the Rave Speech, it needs page >BC decoding to work. If the Rave Speech card is not modified and you are using it with a Memex system, you need to pull the Rave Speech card and not use it. Otherwise, any code/program/data ever loaded onto that page is subject to being modified. This could be something as simple as a one byte change to a program to a program, etc. during a file copy process. There is a chance the later versions of MDOS may have mapped out page >BC so this may not be an issue. As I think about it, I think Tim did commit that change. If you run the MEMTEST program from a fresh Boot with no Ramdisk installed, you should not see a page >BC mapped as an eligible memory page.
