Un petit bonjour à tous les francophones. Je suis Français aussi. J'ai eu mon 800XL pour mon anniversaire début 1984 , convaincu par un article dans SVM. Je ne l'ai jamais regretté. J'ai eu un 520 STFM et un Amiga 500 après, mais ce n'était pas pareil.

Un petit bonjour d'Alsace, de Sélestat plus précisément. Je me fais pas mal chronophager par la musique, mais je viens ici de temps en temps. J'aime écrire de petits jeux sans prétention en assembleur pour cette machine qui a fait partie de ma vie dans mes jeunes années. J'ai encore quatre 800xl, un 130xe et deux megaST.

Your production deserves a more detailed review in its own thread so that everybody can discover your creations.

I personaly like what you did because this was typically what an enthusiast could achieve at that time: Neat tools and fun small games.

Banana is in the spirit of what we found back in the old days.

The ball in Breakout has a different behavior than in other breakout style game. Quite difficult to master.

Labyrinth is very good with scrolling in both directions. I like that!

A minor issue to fix for a perfect game: the head goes too fast so it's quite hard to turn.

I tried hard to get out of your labyrinth but did not succeed.

But again, it shows that you are mastering many Atari programming techniques.

The next one reminds me an Activision game for the VCS that everybody knows:

And I finish the review with your tool to copy a disk in one pass which I tried and it worked fine:

the menu: 1-read, 2-write, 3-format

 

I am pleased to see that there are still French programmers around there.

Thank you for the assembler sources. It may help others understand how you did it.

I did not look at the sources. What assembler did you use?

The copyright years are quite old. Are you still programming on the Atari nowadays?

 

Thank you for sharing all this which is part of the Atari history.

I strongly hope that AtariMania guys will put your software in their database.

Tes créations méritent d'être présentées dans leur propre fil de discussion pour que tout le monde les voient.

J'adore ce que tu as fait car c'est typique de ce que des passionnés pouvaient réaliser à l'époque: des utilitaires efficaces et des petits jeux sympas.

Banana est bien dans l'esprit de ce qui se faisait à l'époque.

La balle dans Breakout se comporte différemment des autres jeux du même type. Pas facile à maitriser.

Labyrinth est très bon avec un scrolling dans les 2 sens. J'aime beaucoup!

Un petit défaut serait à corriger pour être parfait: le personnage va trop vite et il faut vraiment être précis pour changer de direction.

J'ai essayé un bon moment de sortir du labyrinthe mais sans succès.

Tes jeux montrent que tu maitrises la plupart des techniques de programmation de l'Atari.

Ton jeu de course me rappelle un jeu d'Activision sur la VCS que tout le monde connais.

Et je finis la revue avec ton outil de copie de disque en une passe que j'ai essayé et qui fonctionne très bien.

 

Je suis content de voir qu'il y a d'autres programmers Français.

Merci pour avoir partagé les sources. Ca peut aider d'autres personnes pour comprendre comment c'est réalisé.

Je n'ai pas regardé les sources. Qu'as-tu utilisé comme assembleur ?

Les copyrights semblent dater. Programmes-tu encore aujourd'hui sur l'Atari ?

On my side, it was in 83 with an article in Tilt (French video game magazine) which presented a lot of computers in a review (TI 99 4A, ZX81, Atari 400,..).

But I had to buy my Atari 400 on the sly because my parents weren't very keen at the time for a machine that looked like a game console and quite expensive!

Do you still have an Atari today? What do you do with it?

Moi c'était en 83 avec un article dans Tilt qui présentait pleins de machines de l'époque dans un dossier spécial ordinateur (TI 99 4A, ZX81, Atari 400,..)..

Mais j'ai du m'acheter mon Atari 400 en cachette car mes parents n'étaient pas très chaud à l'époque pour une machine qui ressemblait à une console de jeu et qui coutait un bras !

L'Atari 800xl a été mon premier ordinateur dans les années 80  et River Raid mon premier jeux.
Et recemment j'ai décidé  de retrouver mon amour de jeunesse  .
Bref je réapprend à faire fonctionner la machine.
En ce moment j'ai 
1 600xl ( 64ko, Svidéo )

2 130 XE Secam sur lesquels j'ai changé le mylar clavier et un équippé d'un vbxe ( tellement limage du 130 xe secam est pas belle ).
1 800 xl pal

1 800 xl Secam.

4  1050 que j'ai réparé,  une imprimante 1027 , 2  k7 1010 et 2 XC12  
Voila à peut pres
La je me documente sur la programmation, je souhaite bien comprendre le Basic pour ensuite passé au language machine,
car je pense que le LM reste encore accessible a un humains comme moi.

Si tu as plusieurs 1050, je te recommande d'acheter soit une carte Happy soit une carte BitWriter.

A mon avis le BitWriter est plus puissant et dispose d'un logiciel génial (Super Archiver) pour s'amuser avec les protections mais, en contrepartie, il faut souder quelques fils pour l'installer.

Alors que Happy est plug and play: tu ouvres, tu mets la carte et tu refermes le lecteur.

Je te conseille aussi

- un SDriveMax (recherche sur eBay, il y en a plein à 40 euros) qui te permet de mettre tous les softs sur une carte SD que tu branche sur le port SIO

- soit un SIO2PC (le plus simple est de prendre celui-ci: https://lotharek.pl/productdetail.php?id=108) qui te permet de relier ton Atari à ton PC.

Et dans le dernier cas, je te conseille le logiciel RespeQt:

Si tu as quelques résultats en Basic, n'hésites pas à les poster ici.

A oui j'ai aussi depuis peut une AVGCART, un SIO2PC fait maison et 10502PC de Lotherek .
Oui je vais attendre de refaire des économie et je vais etudier les lien que tu m'a donné pour les 1050.
Alors si il y a un truc qui me rend perplexe , le Spartados X en cartouche  .
Je ne comprend pas l'interet d'un dos en cartouche si on doit jongler entre les cartouche ( action! , Ataritext ou autre ! ).
Et sinon je voudrais aussi me renseigner pour savoir comment faire pour changer la rom basic pour mettre une ROM Alltira en dur par exemple.
Voila j'ai encor pas mal de marge de progression  .

Absolutely. When I was young I was not aware of floating point , So there are only 4 or 8 directions available.

Yes. I have 2 projects.

 

One concerns Choppe the Robot, an old game of mine, written in basic for HMI but machine language for the game. I'm rewriting it totally in assembler with new tricks, new motor, new music, new behaviors, restarted from scratch excepting the sprites (choppe is my avatar ). From scratch means I've written in python an assembler inspired from C language concerning memory segments, because it's not easy to share a lib in existing 6502 assemblers. I go slowly, I'm in retirement and electronic music (as Jean Michel Jarre, Karftwerk and so on, I use some vintage analog synths) consumes a lot of my time, but the game is already playable.

 

The other project is a disk juke box with an Arduino Nano. There are already many gadgets like this, But I have a different concept. The problem is that it's boring to select a disk from an sd card, we have all a wonderful human-machine interface with the Atari 800, so why not use it to select a disk as we select a game?

Oooops! I forgot... I think there is a map of the maze (in the game Labyrinthe) if you press start/select/option, I don't remember which one. The assembler I used was the Atari cartridge one.

SpartaDos X est absolument génial!

C'est le DOS que j'utilise tous les jours.

Il ressemble beaucoup dans ses commandes ou dans son fonctionnement au DOS présent dans les PC dans les années 90.

Un de ses points forts est de pouvoir charger des drivers pour différents matériels.

Et par exemple, il existe des drivers pour accéder à des cartes CompactFlash ou SD qui sont vues comme un disque dur SSD.

Il y a plusieurs solutions possible pour avoir SpartaDos X:

- Ultimate 1MB de chez Lotharek (voir plus bas)

- Cartouche SIDE 2 de chez Lotharek

- Cartouche MyIDE 2 de chez AtariMax

- Pleins d'autres solutions que l'on trouve sur le site officiel de SpartaDos X (IDE 2 Plus, AtariMax 8Mbit,...)

La meilleure solution est de monter une extension Ultimate 1MB.

Avec cette extension, tu as plus de mémoire, le SpartaDos X en Flash et la possibilité de switcher de Basic et d'OS ce qui répond à ta question car tu n'as plus à choisir le Basic Atari ou Altirra.

Tu peux ainsi avoir les 2 et tu disposes d'un superbe menu pour sélectionner celui que tu veux.

En effet, sauf erreur de ma part Altirra n'existe que pour Windows.

Moi aussi je voulais l'utiliser sur ma Nvidia Shield TV, ou sur un Raspberry.

Mais, bon, c'est à mes yeux le meilleur émulateur (Atari 8-bit), et je suis tellement reconnaissant que quelqu'un ait développé cette merveille, gratuitement en plus !

Indeed, if I'm not mistaken Altirra is available for Windows only.

I also wanted to run it on my Nvidia Shield TV or on a Raspberry.

But, hey, it's to me the best of all (8-bit Atari) emulators and I'm so grateful to the guy who developed this wonder, available for free, on top of it!

I dumped the ROMs of my Arabic 65XE thanks to the software provided by a dutch fan. I can repost them here if someone is interested.

My books and manuals are not here, I store them safely but I don't have access to them, at least not easily.

My collection is stored is boxes and shelves, and not "on display". I know, I know, I also want a gigantic apartment with a "Atari collection" devoted room.

J'ai extrait les ROMs de mon Atari 65XE arabe grâce à un logiciel fourni par un fan hollandais. Je peux les déposer ici si quelqu'un est intéressé.

Mes livres et manuels ne sont pas ici. Je les stocke en sécurité mais je n'y ai pas accès, du moins pas facilement.

Ma collection est stockée dans des boites et des étagères, mais pas vraiment "visible". Je sais, je sais, je veux un appartement gigantesque avec une pièce dédiée à ma "collection Atari".

There is already someone on AtariAge (don't remember who - if someone can help) who have a list of all the OS versions and dump.

But I am sure that he would be interested in checking if your OS is already in his list or if it is a different version.

From the RAW .txt version, I create (with Michael's blessing) a .PDF version (in both A4 & US Letter), with some nice formatting, ideal to print

It takes hours and evenings and week-ends to reformat it all. I'm getting nearer completion. I need to finish reformatting chap 6 (one section) & chap 7 (all content).

It should be nice when completed.

I do, but the trouble is, most if not all of these books are almost impossible to scan:

Their bindings do not allow you to scan a single page without damaging/destroying the binding, thus the book.

I love the series "Compute!'s 1st/2nd/3rd book of Atari" because their spiral bindings allows you to read them, lying flat on a table, and scan them. That's how every computer book should be designed!

In the French-language books, the worst is surely the French DOS 3 manual

Just opening it too wide makes the pages detach themselves from the binding, and you get loose pages. Arrrgh!

You are right.

That is what I fear when talking about the scan and OCR.

A little message to the French fans.
Does anyone know where I could find scans of the first issues of "L'ordinateur Individuel"? I have scans of 01 to 16 but would like a few more issues from the same period. I am trying to retrace the introduction of the 400/800 in France.

Est-ce quelqu'un sait où je pourrais trouver des scans des premiers numéros de "L'ordinateur Individuel" ? J'ai les scans des 01 à 16 mais j'aimerais quelques numéros en plus, de la même époque. Je cherche à retracer l'introduction des 400/800 en France.
