There were no Mega-CD 2s anywhere in Akiba (there were plenty in Super Potato on Wednesday, though), and this was the only Mega-CD in the whole town as well. I don't think I mentioned it before, so this is a great time to mention it: Japanese Mega Drive with the Mega-CD and no Super 32X is probably the tower configuration that looks the best to me, although I generally used to leave the Super 32X on as well for functionality before I got the MegaSD. Now I run it without either the Mega-CD or 32X or use the Mega Sg. #1 MD variant in terms of visual appearance will always be the Wondermega RG-M1, though. This is why I said Mega Drive + Mega-CD is my favourite tower configuration, because I like this one even more. I've never seen one in person but they are super awesome looking with all of the lights and stuff and I really want one! They are extremely expensive, relatively rare, and do not have RGB, though, so I have mixed feelings about actually getting one for its actual performance. I won't hesitate if I do find one in the wild, though!

The Usotsuki #54 Posted February 23, 2020 There seems to have been a "Genesis 1.5" (original design, but it had the later firmware), certainly this is what I remember as the "classic" Genesis.

Maybe I'm the only one that is reminded of a space shuttle, but space shuttles are awesome, and therefore so is the Japan/PAL design. Too bad in the US we got that weird box thingy with uncomfortably dented controller buttons instead. I've already commented on the MD/Genesis, but I'll say it here again because I can! Original Japanese AV Intelligent Terminal High Grade Multipurpose Use Mega Drive is really great! I still wish the 16-BIT thing wasn't so big, but I can live with it since the system itself is so good that I don't even really care that much now. 22 hours ago, high voltage said: Free gift with early orders from way back (UK only?). Steven Pendleton #61 Posted February 25, 2020 (edited) I think I forgot something: the Vita TV. The design itself isn't anything special, and it basically looks like a really small modem or router, but its super tiny size makes it the smallest home console that I know of, and it definitely beats the old record holder, the PC Engine, by a whole lot. I figure that means its design is good enough to mention here. If you have never seen one in person, it's really SUPER TINY and that makes it cool enough to mention! Yep! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nintendo-Gameboy-SP-Game-Boy-Advance-GBA-Famicom-Limited-Edition-Console-grade-B-/202171970499 The one with the faceplate is cool, though. I left my silver one in the USA, so I picked up a black one a few years ago. I am not sure if the black one ever got released in the USA, but it looks good! derFunkenstein #65 Posted February 26, 2020 The Super Famicom and European SNES are as beautiful as the North American SNES is ugly. I never understood what Nintendo was thinking when they redesigned the Famicom and Super Famicom for the NA market. They're hideous. I love shrunken systems. The slim PS1, slim PS2, Atari 2600 Jr., Genesis 3, and SNES Jr. are all pretty awesome looking in my eyes, but it's too bad that almost all of those systems are compromised in some fashion. Sega did it right with the original Mega Drive / Genesis. The model 1 is bar none the most beautiful system out there. I love everything about it. The model 2 (which I had as a high school student) was boring by comparison. Still is.

I think PSone is the only one of those that's actually an upgrade (more reliable, smaller, can use the PSone screen), while the rest of them are definitely downgrades. Slim PS2 has problems running some games and apparently the 2600 Jr. does as well, Genesis 3 is composite only and can't do Virtua Racing, CD, Master System, or 32X stuff at all (it's apparently really good if you triple bypass it. There are mods to get the 32X running. Not sure about the rest), and SNES Jr. has no RGB. I always liked the design of the Genesis 3 and also the Neptune, but it's really too bad the Genesis 3 is technically crap without mods.

Also too bad everything these days looks like a damn VCR except the Switch. I think the Playstation 4 was fairly stylized. Speaking of beige, I will always have a soft spot for the Performa 550/575. 68030/68040 Mac that brought me into the age of color on the Macs while I was in college. Upgradable to a PowerPC (Performa 5200) though not as good in my opinion at that point. Aside from Mac II and the beige towers, all the rest of the Macs are a thing of beauty. Speaking of woodgrain, most elegant looking game system goes to the woodgrain, brown, and gold... ... Intellivision!

I have one of those and have one of my Jags in a white shell. Looks slick. I love the Jaguar design, which quite a few have said has a resemblance to a horseshoe crab. I think the design was fairly well thought out. The indent on the top tells me they had in mind for expansions to happen later down the road though certainly they didn't think a CD add on would be only an inch or so thick? I actually have no problem with the Jaguar and a cartridge as about every other console had a cartridge sticking out of the top. Hard not to like that. The CD unit, after seeing the towers of add-ons for the Sega again I don't find that as ridiculous either. At least the Jaguar had an outline for the CD or expansions from day one. But the biggest problem was the CD add on was so thick. Been a lot of thoughts over the years of how to mesh the profile of the CD add on with the profile of the Jaguar. I've thought of reducing the size of the CD add on, but what if the Jaguar itself was made thicker? Apparently someone else also had a similar idea. But I think at the end of the day I dream of making this Jaguar and CD combo...
