Is the NeoGeo thumbstick pad analog?

Recommended Posts

Is the NeoGeo thumbstick pad analog? I've heard the NeoGeo has analog control, but I looked at a repair of the pad and it has four buttons with springs for directions with the thumbstick.

Are you talking about the recent Neo Geo Mini's controllers?

Real Neo Geo pads/sticks are supposed to be clicky 8-ways, but lately SNK's been licensing their name out to companies that fail at everything.  And it sure looks like the new cd pads have the same analog mech that the mini arcade does.  (from what I can see through the plastic here)

I have played the Neo Geo Pocket Color (if that's the one), and just wanted to say I really like the feel of its joystick...it clicks in the right places and works very well. Not sure about the analog question, but I don't remember any with the few games I've played; I always just assumed it worked like a d-pad.

500 terawatts blue LED smells "100% Chinese conceived" at 100 kilometres... Yuck. That and cheesy white transparent plastic.

It's a full on click stick, I've had the system twice over the years (and have one currently.)  It's a microswitch type setup that's good to a fault where they had to put a restrictor ring in the box with Pac-Man so you don't screw up cornering in a serious play session.

That said I don't agree with the fall flat concept of SNK and their more recent stuff.  Their tabletop arcade joystick works phenomenally well despite not being a micro switch setup and the game pads have the same design just not a little joystick hat on it.  They're nicely made and really get the job done well.  You really need to just be overly sensitive about things and looking to complain to take digs at it.

So this description was put up by someone ignorant. Apparently, to some people thumbstick = analog.

These folks call it an analog stick, too.

I'm afraid and sorry to say those are misleading Swami. Those aren't analog. Tanooki has is right. That's a mistake. :|

In fact, those pads that were for the Neo Geo Mini weren't well received by many in the community and the original versions were better design with the 8 way click motion with the proper button layout. I personally have to agree that the Mini pads weren't to my liking until AtariAge member bratwurst was able to modify those controllers with the clicky sound. He helped improved also the feel of the movement and is more responsive at the same time. But in it's original untampered form. I didn't care for them for continue gameplay.
