We're playing the Famicom version because it features arcade style scoring that'll work better for the competition than how football is traditionally scored. I've linked to the NES manual as both versions play the same. Game Rules: Manual Score Post Deadline: Sunday March 15 at 11:59 PM CST. General HSC Season Rules: To participate, just post a score to the thread. Anyone can join in at any time. A picture or screenshot is encouraged when posting a score but not required. The season is 14 rounds long. Games will be posted on Sundays and run two weeks through Sunday at 11:59 PM CST. Do not exploit game glitches, take advantage of 1-up loops or intentionally die in order to replay a level. If "point pressing" is not specified in the game rules you should be moving forward in an attempt to complete/loop the game and not "camping" for points. No emulator save states, slow-mo, rewind, etc. No cheats, e.g. Konami code, Game Genie, etc. Turbo controllers are allowed. Tempest Posted March 1, 2020 Share Posted March 1, 2020 55,590 First of all, the Japanese version is really nothing like the US version so that manual isn't very helpful. The Japanese version is pretty much a port of the arcade version where you're always on offense and need to get a first down or touchdown before the timer expires. Secondly, this game NEEDS a joystick, the directional pad is painful to use. I'm going to grab my old NES Advantage and see if that helps my score. I made it to the Super bowl, but it's pretty impossible at that point as you need to either get a first down each play or score as you don't have enough time for anything else. It's a lot more fun than the US version that's for sure. Right before I rolled the score (had a feeling that it was going to roll over to 0) Obviously you can't get to the Super Bowl level with such a low score unless you rolled it. I thought it might be helpful for the offensive controls and game play as those are the same. But, yes, the defensive instructions are useless and can be ignored. I looped the Super Bowl a few times which helped. Nevertheless, I think I'm getting the hang of it a little. Made it to college! Whoo! And beat the default high score! When I make a complete pass, gain yards, or score a touchdown, I definitely start liking it.
