New release

"WiFi Firmware Update" is not working for me -- either on my guest, or my regular network.

I have tried two carts (one with ESP8266 v 1.1.0.0 and the other with ESP8266 v 1.6.2.0).

Neither changes firmware version after I do an update.  Am I misunderstanding this feature?

No luck.  Menu item either returns immediately, or I see the "wait" spinner for about a minute, and then the Setup menu again. And the firmware version of the ESP8266 has not changed. Tested on both carts -- v1.1.0.0 and v1.6.2.0.  Tried both guest and regular networks.

Can you test with the new dev version from GIT

Yes, your WiFi firmware version should be 1.6.2.0 too. (can be checked in "Setup/System Info").
Wait 10 seconds before "Setup/WiFi Firmware Update".

Surprised it doesn't update when the firmware update goes out, is it because it's a separate part in the cart?

yes, for updating the WiFi modul (if available) you have to select:

"Setup/WiFi Firmware Update"

I'd like to see the System Info page made easier to read....  something like the following...

PlusCart Device ID
0028blah3330851083036blah

STM Firmware         0.16.5 DEV
WiFi AT Firmware     1.6.2.0
Flash Size           1 MiB
PlusStore ID         283
PlusStore Account    namehere
PlusStore API        v0.13.2

Edit: Note the "MiB" instead of "MB".  And also, if appropriate, use "KiB"

Edit2: Note the space after the unit and before the suffix!!

Edit3: Yes, I'm particular/pedantic about these things :P

Wait 2 seconds and "clean" uart line to WiFi module before sending the update command. And reinitialize the WiFi module after an update:

if you like you can test if you can reach from your WiFi network the espressif update server with your Browser:

http://iot.espressif.cn/v1/device/rom/?is_format_simple=true

everyone else that is having trouble with the "WiFi Firmware Update" can test from his WiFi network too.

response should be:

{
 "message": "key is nil",
 "status": 500
}
