Cynicaster
NOTE: Welcome to the penultimate round of the competition! I will be on vacation at the time this round would normally end, so I have extended the duration of this round by an additional week. Of course, we can't have a 3 week round without a proportional increase in gaming goodness, so this round will consist of 3 titles. M.A.M.E Offender
As promised. 733,820 MAM Round 10 Ok, ok. I can't keep hitting these boards with such massive scores without sharing some of my strategies. 1. There are several ways to score big points in Rygar. Here is a mini list of them: Flying Dragons --- 1000 Flying Dragons with Rider--- 1250 Boss guards (every fourth board) -5000, or 50000 if you kill with jump attack. The 4 dudes that form a column, but you must kill all before any touch ground - 10000 Collect 7 white stars -- 70000 Get the iron cross with full power -- 160000! ; only one per game. And finally, the 13th Board. Approximately 1/3 into this board, there will be some hidden stars in the sky between the two trees. Just to the right of the last hidden star contains a secret "Red Scroll" . It takes several hits to unlock it at the top of the screen. Once you hit it enough, the Red Scroll will fall to the ground. Collect it for a MASSIVE 1,000,000 point bonus!! 2. Rygar is a constant battle of risk vs reward. Focusing on forward movement (to the right) should be more important than getting kills. However, kills will give bonuses between rounds as repulse bonus AND you advance your weaponry quicker with more kills. Use balance. 3. You can ride through an entire board on the back of Griffins, who are the monsters that fly and suddenly swoop down as an attack. This can first be useful on Board 3; The Waterfall Board. Note that this can only work if you do NOT possess the Tiger Power gem. I hope will help scores elevate to at least the 300,000 point range.... It gets REALLY confusing which direction you are facing when you get the powerup that shoots forwards and backwards. I also wish it had a spinner/paddle control for turning. I'll try them out next time, though I kinda worry about improving with this game as the play times seem like they'll get long! Maybe the difficulty should have been set to HARD. AtariWarlord
Pengo 20,380. Does anyone else experience the phenomenon of getting a good score (or at least hitting a milestone, in my case getting 20K in Pengo) and immediately going back only to find you're absolutely useless at the game? I think it may just be fatigue.
S.BAZ
Yeah that happens to me in a lot of games. Seems like especially really good ones for scoring points! As soon as I get suddenly better at the game, then my efforts to duplicate the new skill just get me killed over & over and then I'm crappier at the game for a while. Space Fury: 38,370 I love these vector games!
AtariWarlord
I feel a little guilty for having suggested Space Fury, or at least in the process not suggesting a more reasonable difficulty setting. I originally played it on the Internet Archive https://archive.org/details/arcade_spacfury where it defaults immutably to "Easy." It's already pretty hard on that setting. TBH, I'm struggling with it like mad on "Normal" right now as well.

I also find the AI to be difficult to predict at times.
S.BAZ
Pengo: 27,940 Isn't there a way to use those egg-blocks for bonus pts? Rygar: 158,100 Space Fury improvement!: 42,600 Made it to battling all forces at once. Personally I don't mind the difficulty at all! It's hard as hell, like an arcade game should be x) Makes it exciting!

Cynicaster
As a reminder, this round is still ongoing; you have until Sunday 11:59pm PST to get your best scores in! Hope everyone is managing OK in the current chaos. We cut our vacation short by 4 days and flew home to start our 2-week quarantine. The plan is still to start the final round of the season on Monday, which will also consist of multiple games and have a longer duration.
