I have recently got an Atari 5200 4 port for my birthday and kinda curious on what I got as far as serial numbers go and how common it is or maybe rare I don't really know there is a lot of sites that say one thing or another and not real sure. it seems to be untouched all original no mods or work done to the console so just seeing if someone could give me some insight on this. even the one controller that came with it works lol.

Thanks it is a great console.ive played it for a bit and I'm going to have to wait until I get a few more controllers before I really get to play.im thinking of something aftermarket just don't want to break an controller while playing. Just looking for some information about the console it's self. And maybe I can find it here. Fingers crossed.

5200 consoles aren't all that hard to find, at least on eBay and other online places. In all the years of searching flea markets I've probably come across 5200s only a handful of times, including the one I own which was a flea market find. Looking at your serial number it looks like you have an early unit, the "SV-392" stamp at the end means it was manufactured in Sunnyvale on the 39th week (September 27-October 3) of 1982. Consider adding it to the 5200 SN database here:

Anything really how rare or common they are and what does the sn# mean.

You may want to follow this thread. It contains quite a bit of information from various members. Also, the Podcast is great!
