The Eidolon #3 Posted July 15, 2003 AR the city was definitely released for the ST. I used to own it. It would let you join guilds, get jobs and learn spells, which was a nice upgrade from the 8-bit version. No Dungeon though, so it was kind of a dead-end... I'm pretty sure Ultima 6 was never released for the ST, although I know U5 was. I had to buy a PC to play U6. Hero's of the Lance was released for the ST, but it was atrocious. Other memories: Bards Tale 1 Phantasie 1-3 Dungeon Master/CSB (of course!) That's all I remember playing but there must have been more... --The Eidolon
Atari_Owl #4 Posted July 15, 2003 Oh Good Grief i HATED Alternate Reality with that terrible music and the dot bouncing above the 'lyrics' Allllternaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate Reali tyyyyyyyyyyyy And DULL, i haven't the words for it. In fact thank you, you just reminded me of the worst game for the ST
The Eidolon #5 Posted July 15, 2003 Dear Atari_Owl, Was it really that bad?! I guess everyone has his own opinion, but AR is usually considered one of the best games on Atari 8-bits, and I don't think the ST version was >that< much worse... Well, there's no sense arguing over personal tastes. (Except to pass the time!) --The Eidolon
Atari_Owl #6 Posted July 15, 2003 My main problems with it were 1. Extremely basic and repetitive graphics (wandering around a city with essentially only one kind of wall) 2. Exceptionally bad music 3. Nothing Happened 4. There was nowhere to go except OCCASIONALLY a shop or inn 5. Random monsters that killed you WAYYYYYY too quickly whilst looking very unconvincing 6. Did i mention you could wander around the 'City' (it was essentially a maze in which you just took block steps) for literally hours without seeing anything or anyone? Now to be fair i didn't really encounter rpgs until the ST, so its possible that they were worse on the 8bit machines and thats why AR seemed like one of the better ones. Certainly it was the game i disliked more than any other. It brings me out in a cold sweat even now, just to think about it.
Inky #7 Posted July 15, 2003 The little I played of the Phantasie series was pretty cool. Then there's DM and Chaos. DM was good, once I got a handle on casting spells. Gotta love a diet rich in shrieker slices. Yum!
Gunstar #8 Posted July 15, 2003 I LOVE AR the City and Dungeon on the 8-bit Atari, and it's still my favorite to this day, even with more modern and in depth RPG's around. I haven't tried the ST version yet, but your discription is NOT the AR:City I know (except the part with all the walls looking the same, but hey, this was 8-bit ), I NEVER walked around aimlessly for hours meeting nobody, in fact, all to often you had encounters when you didn't want them, i.e., low health and trying to get to an Inn to rest. The dungeon is much better in the sense of having actual quests to go on and specific encounters while most of the city was random encounters, but the city was meant an an introduction to the AR world which was supposed to encompass about 5 or 6 installments. Even so, there were plenty of shops and armouries and Inn's and Taverns to go to as well as guilds and healers to visit to get stats increased. The main idea was supposed to be that you did just explore the maze of the city and build up your character for further adventures like The Dungeon. In any case I loved the game, and while I doubt the music is as good on the ST version, and maybe they didn't use 128 color graphics like the 8-bit did, but I can't imagine the core game being any worse than the 8-bit, unless someone REALLY screwed up. It can't possibly imagine it being the worst game on the ST though... As far as the games listed at the top guys, the list is games he KNOWS exists already, and he was asking about more, not asking you if what is on his list IS on the ST, he already KNOWS they are, he's asking about titles NOT on his list that are on the ST. Lord-Chaos #9 Posted July 15, 2003 The games I´ve listed exist for the ATARI ST , because I have them. Ultima VI is available for ST for example (this games was also ported to the AMIGa , the C64 and the SNES !!!) I want to know if anyone knows more role-playing games for the ST. +Sauron #10 Posted July 15, 2003 If Ultima VI was available for the ST, I could certainly never find it. Anyone happen to have a copy of it?
Lord-Chaos #11 Posted July 16, 2003 If Ultima VI was available for the ST, I could certainly never find it. Anyone happen to have a copy of it? Finding ST games is a lot easier in Europe , especially UK. The ST market was quite big in the UK , France and Germany so you may check European ebays for ST games. Ayreon #12 Posted July 16, 2003 ooops i totally misread the question
The Eidolon #13 Posted July 16, 2003 Ultima 6 was released for the ST? Wow--I had no idea. Here in the US I don't think I have ever seen or heard of this release. Do you know any of the details of the release? What year, who ported it to the ST, whether it was released in the US or just Europe? Ultima 6 and 7 were one of the reasons I swiched to the PC (I have since regained my senses) so had I know at the time it would have been of great interest to me. Kind of an academic question now though... Thanks, --The Eidolon
Han #14 Posted July 16, 2003 Were any of the expansions disks for ER ever produced? I found the game quite fascinating, even though I got frustrated that nothing ever happened.
The Eidolon #15 Posted July 16, 2003 Do you mean AR? The first two episoded (City, Dungeon) were released for 8 bits. Only the City was released for the ST. Screenshots exist for an Amiga version of the Dungeon, but it was never finished or released. I can hunt down the link if you are interested. --The Eidolon

The Eidolon #17 Posted July 16, 2003 A quick search turns up this page, although I think I first learned about it from a different source--may have been the AR message board. http://w1.214.telia.com/~u21405572/alterna...miga/index.html --The Eidolon
Maarten Martens #18 Posted July 16, 2003 -Legends of valour ... One of US Golds final efforts, and a big RPG for the ST. -Crystals of arborea : the prequel to the Ishar series! There are more, but those are the only 2 I ever played on my ST (not a fan of the genre )
Goochman #19 Posted July 16, 2003 Wasnt U6 very buggy on the ST? For some reason I thought I heard this. I also moved to the PC to play U6 since I didnt realize it was planned was back when.
The Eidolon #20 Posted July 16, 2003 It was pretty buggy on the PC too! And don't get me started on Ultima 7... --The Eidolon
Goochman #21 Posted July 16, 2003 Just go to U9 - talk about your Alpha release!
AtariDude #22 Posted July 19, 2003 It was pretty buggy on the PC too! And don't get me started on Ultima 7... --The Eidolon Could you tell me how Ultima Vi was buggy for the PC? I played it all the way through and completed it and didn't notice any bugs so I am curious what bugs existed for it. I actually stil have the game in the box with the cloth maps and the stone inside.
Goochman #23 Posted July 19, 2003 U6 seemed ok to me on the PC except I nearly finished it when I couldnt get the telekinis spell to work on the drawbridge at Blackthorns castle........No matter what I did I couldnt get the drawbridge to come down and hence I didnt finish it
The Eidolon #24 Posted July 20, 2003 Ultime 6 bugs-- Unfortunatly my PC and the game are long gone, so I have no way to go back and confirm my impression. It wasn't as bad as U7 by a long shot, but I do remember it being rather unstablle in my old PC. I bought it pretty soon after it came out. I think they may have fixed some problems on later versions, though I can't confirm that with certainty. Still it was one of my favorite Ultimas, just behind #4. --The Eidolon
jayjaybee #25 Posted July 22, 2003 I know where to get the ultima 6 disk images, but i havent been able to get it to work on Steem 2.5 successfully. It needs a 1 meg st, and runs up to the title screen, but after a dozen disk swaps the st bombs. Ill try a real st and some other emu's. If anyone wants the images, give me a mail/message and ill let u know where u can find them.
