Musical SFX in Super Mario Bros

This video came up in my youtube feed, and I thought it was interesting to see how a lot of the sound effects in SMB were very musical in nature... (though obviously some of these examples rely on non-melodic components)

 

 

 

I think there might be some good inspiration in there for us devs, when we're trying to come up with original sound effects.

Thanks for posting this, for me as a someone that struggles with sound design, it's fascinating to see.

 

I especially loved the "grow" effect being a sped up version of one of the regular jingles!

I'm glad you found inspiration in it. The breakdown of the grow effect was a lovely surprise for me too... I think I'll give that technique a shot some time.

This one is really old, but this guy was already doing a lot of the sounds like 150 years ago. The video you posted is really cool though, not to detract from it.
