ADAM 40mb Zip Drive

Here's a video I uploaded of a 40mb Zip Drive for the Coleco ADAM.  It uses a MicroFox IDE controller card and an Iomega Zip drive instead of the usual CF card setup. I got this several years ago in an eBay auction.

That is very cool. I can't seem to get my iomega 250 to work. Maybe it's only able to use the 100(which I don't have)

Anyway it's a nice setup

Without doing the detective work myself...

- Does the Iomega 250 Zip Drive use an E-IDE interface and if so could this be the issue?

- Are there jumper settings on the drive that can be adjusted?

it seems that the IDE does not work with atapi Zip drives.    i assume that the original Zip 100 was not an atapi and as such does work .   I tried all combinations of jumper settings but no luck.

I guess that the larger Zip drives use the same ATA Packet interface as CD roms

BINGO!!!  The drive must be labeled as a Zip IDE in the id label; ATAPI drives will not work.  These are hard to find and are the only ones that will work.  If I recall, the 100 version is the only one that will work.  The small Sparq drives work the same way as the Zip.  Other than a cool adaptation, the mainline IDE hd or the CF versions are easier and more reliable to use.
