Atari 7800 Power Supply

Have system and RF cable, but now power supply.. I have a few odds and ends to trade, but cant really afford a lot..

You are looking at upwards of $50 as of late for a used original Atari brand 7800 power supply. 

They are not cheap and those who have them are not looking to part with them easily.

What about the newish 7800 power supplies that Best Electronics offers? Now they do have a minimum order amount, but might be able to find some other stuff to pair with it to make it work the purchase and it wouldn't be $50 either.

Yep, that is the "best" bet for sure. He would need to round out the minimum order though ($50 to make a paypal payment I think?) so he might not be any further ahead even with the best supplies at a more than fair $21 each.

Everything stated above is correct but I will add another idea: add "Atari 7800 power supply" to your saved searches on eBay and perhaps you will get lucky with a lower-priced option. I say that because in the last 30 days, there have been two authentic, original 7800 PSUs they have sold for much more palatable sums (in the $20s) with free shipping. Picture proof:

Another thought would be to find a comparable PSU from a thrift store etc...that means the needed voltage and amps. So basically +9 with a 1amp output to be safe. Then get one of the wiring harnesses from Console5.com that fit the power plug on the 7800 and wire it up to the adapter you purchased. Would require knowing which side is which for polarity etc. But would be an infinitely cheaper solution that would likely last you for many years to come if done right.

 

Or even a new quality power supply like this one also from console5.com and pair it with the wire harness needed. Still requires modding the power supply wire but still an option.

Thanks for all the information folks. For now I am probably just going to have to hold on to hope that I stumble across one.

 

One of my main concerns is that I don't even know if my system works. I received it a number of years ago in a trade, and was suppose to have come with the power supply, and the person never followed through.. So the whole thing may be moot.

 

Thus my interest in trade or cheap, but I also understand other's POV in wanting to hold onto their hardware.

Could also get you a barrel jack plug connector to wire in parallel with the actual power port plug on the main board. That way you could use a more common power supply to use and test with like from a Genesis model 1 as an example.
