Log TRACE output to array or file?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Is there anyway from XB / RXB to use TRACE, but instead of printing the line number flow to screen, have it logged to either a array of some sort or written to a DSKx. file that i can review later?

Don't know about RXB but the Super Extended Basic TRACE command has what you wish to do. Specify a disk file instead of PIO.

Another trick I've employed is to reserve some screen space and do a DISPLAY AT to that space whenever I wanted to give myself a headsup when the program hit a certain line or routine and/or display any variables I was tracking.

Written as a subroutine or GOTO/RETURN, you could get pretty fancy with it if you wished. Display to the screen, and/or write to the printer, a file, whatever you wanted.

This avoided displaying an onscreen trace of all executed lines and narrowed it down to only those things you were actively tracking or troubleshooting. Plus your program's screen display wasn't messed with!
