Atari 2600 picture quality improvement!

Ok....I have managed to connect my recently purchased Atari 2600 6 switch woody to my flat screen TV via an old VCR. The picture quality is reasonable but the colour is pretty average. The whites for example appear like a rainbow. Looking at options to improve the RF picture output. My current plan is to purchase a RetroTink Pro x 2 or similar. Not sure if this will assist in correcting picture quality or simply enhance Atari 2600 limited resolution ? My preference would be to not modify the console.

Thanks in advance,

I can't recall if it was needed or not, but I know there are some models of the 2600 that where the color saturation is improved by adding a resistor across two pins of the TIA. Technically a mod, but as it would be done on the underside of the PCB you would never see it had been done. But I think this mod is only for 4 port units.

BTW...whites through composite will frequently look rainbowish on modern TVs. Same thing happens if you use s-video to composite adapters etc. One of the MANY reasons I started to AV mod my personal consoles years ago as they just didn't look good on modern stuff and I didn't want to keep a CRT around that would be on a smaller screen anyway.
