bargora #2 Posted July 17, 2003 "Design choices" Please send ten bucks more to Nintendo so you can get a headphnoe adapter. Also, I think that they decided to have the light come on automatically on power-up is because unless you play in a bathroom (gross!) or fluorescently lit office (like, at work), you're unlikely to have optimal lighting. At least you know to turn it off if you want, right? While I like having a brightness adjustment on my Afterburned GBA (just because), I can't really say that I've ran into a situation yet where I was thinking to myself "damn, this SP frontlight is just too bright". SmileyDude #3 Posted July 17, 2003 The headphone adapter ain't too much... I think it's $2-3 bucks at store.nintendo.com -- even cheaper if you buy a 3rd party one at one of the local game stores. As far as the frontlight goes, the only complaint I have is that when it's on, and you have plenty of light, you can't tell that it's on. You have to cover up the screen and see if it's on or not. I wish that they would've turned on a LED or something letting you know that it's on...

If you look at the GBA SP at an angle and look at the sides of the screen (where the lights are) you can tell pretty easily if the front light is on or not, even in well-lit areas. I don't care too much about the headphone jack not being there (I only used headphones on my original GBA once); ditto for the lack of a brightness control. I'm 100% satisfied with my SP. Mikau #6 Posted July 20, 2003 Nintendo's reason for a lack of a headphone jack was hardwware space. I guess they compacted the system so much that there wasn't any room for the plug thing to fit within that compact size.
