Tickled_Pink
I'm itching to getting back to doing some 8-bit development. I'll probably resurrect/restart one of my old projects in pure assembler. I don't have the room to set up my 8-bit gear at the moment so I was wondering what the recommended emulation setup is for 8-bit software development? bfollowell
I would think Altirra would be the best going at the moment. I don't think there's another emulator released in the last twenty years that can hold a candle to it, and there have been some good ones. As far as setup, that's completely up to you, but there are no end to the options you can setup for Altirra.
+slx
If you use WUDSN you can set it up to launch assembled stuff directly in Altirra. Very handy.

With Altirra. That's the way to go. https://www.wudsn.com/ Optional: And then also have a sio2pc solution of some kind to connect to real hardware easily for testing on the real thing as you go. That helps too if you can do it. But altirra is so good now you really don't need to. Just good piece of mind.

WUDSN plugin for Eclipse using MADS assembler, Altirra for emulator.
Tickled_Pink
Thanks for the info guys. Set it up last night. Hopefully I'll be able to spend an hour or so a night on it. But it's at times like these when you really wish you hadn't sold your copies of Mapping The Atari and The Complete and Essential Map.

TGB1718
One further thing, I use Notepad++ to edit/review code as obviously you can see more code on screen. The beauty of it is you can Copy/Paste between Altirra and Notepad++. If you print your code in Altirra, it appears in the printer pane below the screen, you can highlight the code in the normal windows way, then press <Ctrl>C to copy and then <Ctrl>V to paste into Notepad++. If your copying from Notepad++ back to Altirra it is a little slow, but it does work usually you have to press return on the last line pasted. Hope this helps

Internet Archive (archive dot org) has a HUGE collection of Atari books. Also Bombjack (my personal favorite) is a C64 page, but he has an awesome Atari section and it is a lot faster than Internet Archive. https://commodore.bombjack.org/atari/atari-books.htm
