Since Auto Racing is probably the most variant heavy Intellivision game, I did an analysis a while back to survey the field. I was curious how common the ROM variants were and if there was a way to tell from just looking at the cart (there isn't). Statistically(n=38): * 69% of Mattel carts (blue label) are Hong Kong * 31% of Mattel carts (blue label) are USA * 13% are the original ROM and 87% are revised * Of the 5/38 original ROMs identified, 3 were USA and 2 were Hong Kong. It was actually my 5th or 6th attempt, but only my first night of playing. My first few runs were about learning steering and sliding. My advice is to learn how to slide around turns. For normal driving and slight turns, make small steering adjustments (no more than 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock on the disc). For sharper turns, go a little lower the disc, which will make you power slide/drift. If you go too low you'll over rotate, but there's a sweet spot. You want to hear a little screeching on the tires, but not enough to reduce speed too much. Other than that, learn the maps so you can anticipate the turns. Also, try to avoid using the brakes, especially during turns. For practice on sliding around turns at a slower speed, practice on the green can.
