SF314 Data Cable

Recommended Posts

No knock on B&C but there are order minimums.   I ran into this when I needed a SF314 cable and purchased mine from Bruce at www.myatari.com

Both guys are nice and responsive, but if you dont meet the min for your drive cable with B&C you will need to buy something else.

You're getting them mixed up.

Best is Brad and that is who the link is for.

myatari.com IS B&C and is ran by Bruce.

Brad at Best is the one with the $20 minimum, the limit of 4-5 total items, regardless of cost, and about 347 other obscure rules that are constantly changing, on an almost hourly basis.

I was also going to suggest B&C as I have had good luck with them, but when I went to their web page last night it is devoid of listings and there was a message on each page saying:

 ST Hardware Last change 08/03/2018

Temporarily not available due to Maintanence.

Sorry we we have had several of our Windows XP Systems
crash that we use to update our prices list so have not
been able to update price and stock levels on many items.
I am trying hard to correct this but just do not have
the time right now.

As it is dated in 2018, I'm wondering if they are still in business.

Yeah, his web site has said that for going on two years and don't see it ever changing after all this time. I think he does most of his sales through his ebay store, but I know he has some things that he doesn't show on there. Like Goochman said, email him. He's friendly and easy to work with.

I went to his house one time. It was kind of out in the middle of nowhere. I had purchased an Atari 8-bit power supply from him, but it was the wrong kind. Rather than send it back to exchange it, I just drove it there. As he lives about 40 miles from me. I've bought quite a bit of stuff from him over the years. He's been around a long time.

Yes, I’ve only purchased from him a couple of times over the past few years, but I remember the company from back in the old days of my Atari youth.

If myatari had had it listed on ebay I would have bought it from him as I buy from him pretty often.  This time I bought from Best and picked up a pack of 720K disks as well to hit the $20 minimum.

My thanks to jblenkle for reminding me about Best.

After disassembly, cleaning and reassembly of the drive, today was the day to do a smoke test.

Connected the PSU to the drive and flipped the switch.  Nothing.  Measured the output of the PSU.  Nothing.  No +5vdc, no +12vdc.  Okay, that's fine, better a dead PSU than a dead drive.

Called Best to order the PSU.  He wouldn't sell it to me because I'd just ordered the data cable yesterday.  The 1st order has to clear first.  Now I begin to understand why there were so many responses to this thread.

I have a dead SF354 with working PSU and data cable and can make you a deal if Best doesn't come through for you.
