Null Modem Connection between ST and PC

I've been thinking of making use of a null modem cable I have lying around to transfer hard disk files between my laptop and the ST.  Recent discussion here about the benefits of NetUSBee got me thinking about the prospect of having a classy network solution for file transfer instead of moving an SD card between the ST and the PC.

 

This video shows how it's done (both with an MS-DOS era laptop and a Windows 7 PC with DOSBox).  In both cases, it involves two pieces of software; STMaster for the ST and a fileserver called PC Slave at the PC end:

The file for STMaster that the YouTuber provides isn't much help to me because it's an ST file and I don't have a convenient XP system with an internal floppy drive to convert it into an ST disk.  I'm wondering if anyone here knows where this program can be found in either MSA format or in a format that can be run straight off the hard disk.

 

I would also be interested in any experiences people have with using null modems with the ST and whether it's something that's worth doing in 2020 or if it's too complex and fallible to be worthwhile when there are better solutions available.

It's a very slow way to go.  The RS232 port on most STs maxes out at 19,200.    I remember it being painful when I copied my files years ago.

 

If you have the ability to transfer via SD card..   I would have killed for that when I was trying to transfer files.

Try PARCP-USB otherwise. A bit faster then null modem and a bit cheaper then NetUSBee.

 

SD card copy is fastest and probably the easiest.
