eegad #1 Posted April 29, 2020 It's the age of covid-19 lockdown so there's not much to do. And so I've been playing much more Atari lately. I decided yesterday to mess around with Flight Simulator II a while. I actually owned a store-bought copy back in the day and spent enough time with it to learn a bit about flying, and the program controls. Well, that was then and this is now. The default is that you always start off in Chicago. After browsing through Atarimania's instructions, I see that ESC enters edit mode, and that ctrl-E loads a scenery disk. But the instructions also say that the included scenery includes NYC and 3 others....Fine....But it also mentions that coordinates, etc can be found on the included "charts". Well, I haven't been able to find any additional charts. And unfortunately, while I kept all my Atari hardware (and disks), I tossed all the packaging in the trash when I moved 20 years ago. Oops. Basically, all I want to do is be able to start a flight near New York City. Can anybody tell me how to start a new flight on a runway at either Newark or JFK? Much thanks for any help. _The Doctor__ #2 Posted April 29, 2020 (edited) The co-ordinates are the same as in real life... so if you can't find the manual, try the flight charts through google in real life. http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-400-800-xl-xe-flight-simulator-ii_6191.html scroll down... or cartridge https://archive.org/details/AtariFlightSimulatorII/mode/2up some control help https://archive.org/details/FlightPhysicsAndAircraftControlSublogic/mode/2up Edited April 29, 2020 by _The Doctor__
charliecron #3 Posted April 30, 2020 Check out the first book at www.flightsimbooks.com "Learning to fly with Flight Simulator", the first flight is out of JFK.. they have setup info on the first page...
+DrVenkman #4 Posted April 30, 2020 Are the original FSII charts scanned as PDFs anywhere? I have an original copy with the charts and all but they’re too big for my scanner.
manterola #5 Posted April 30, 2020 Is there a place to get more scenery disks? I would like to get the Washington DC / Baltimore area disk if such thing exists.

It looks like most of the Scenery Disks are not available on Atarimania. That really surprises me. I haven’t looked in any of the other usual sites or collections (Homesoft, Holmes/Pool CDs, etc). +orpheuswaking #7 Posted April 30, 2020 (edited) If I recall Scenery Disk #7 contains Washington and down the east coast to Florida, Unfortunately I have been unable to locate an image online. Edited April 30, 2020 by orpheuswaking

+Philsan #9 Posted April 30, 2020 How many scenery disks were released for A8? I found only four.
Goochman #10 Posted April 30, 2020 Like Infocom titles, I bet the scenario disks are the same/similar across platforms.

I can confirm that the C64 disks match the A8 disks for content, not sure however if you can load a C64 disk into the A8 FSII.
Goochman #12 Posted April 30, 2020 Im sure one of our experts here could convert it like some of the other C64 titles. Here is an overview of the C64 scenario disks: https://www.c64-wiki.com/wiki/subLOGIC_Scenery_Disks#Overview_of_the_scenery_disks One would imagine these were released for the 8bit as well? I can confirm 1-7 and 11 exist along with Japan & the SF STAR disk. Disk 8 & 10 never made it to the c64 so I would hazard a guess they didn't come to the a8 either. At Atarionline.pl Online you can find *SAN FRANCISCO STAR (A more detailed San Francisco disk that is mainly for VFR flying) *DISK 4 - Seattle / Klamath Falls / Great Falls *DISK 13 - JAPAN http://www.atarionline.pl/v01/index.php?ct=search&query=flight+simulator&t=katalog

manterola #16 Posted April 30, 2020 (edited) Wow, so it looks like we will need to try other platforms disks (commodore, apple, atari st) and convert them to Atari disk format... But are these disks using standard DOS 2.0 or similar format or are they using something proprietary? EDIT: check this out: http://ftp.pigwa.net/stuff/collections/Atari 8bit Preserved Software 2020-01-25/ I guess is the same content of the torrent mentioned before.. right? So, 4 ATR and 8 ATX so far. Before my first post I read Farb's topic. It would be nice to complete the collection.

TheRaven81 #25 Posted April 30, 2020 If someone needs scans of the charts that are supposed to come in the retail box, I can try to make those. The person who gave me my Atari recently brought a copy of FSII to me, said it should have been in the box with everything else. It has 4 charts on 2 sheets with it. Charts are for Los Angeles area, Seattle area, New York and Boston area, and Chicago area
