figgler #1 Posted July 20, 2003 You're moving to a deserted island for a year because of a contest or something you won. Whatever...just imagine. They will provide you with any one video game system and an ample library of titles for it to bring. This will be the only thing you can play for a year! Which do you take? chrisbid #2 Posted July 20, 2003 id take a 5200, since the rear controller compartment can be used to store extra water

JB #4 Posted July 20, 2003 GameBoy Advance. I REALLY like handhelds.
Jasoco #5 Posted July 20, 2003 Not a handheld person here. Either way, well.. unless I had a Broadband connection so I could play Xbox LIVE, I'd go with a GameCube. By ample, you mean they'll give me any game I want that is released for the system? Or just a select few at the beginning and I don't get any new releases? Or, if I could have the option, a Sega Genesis with 32X and CD attachments. Does that still count as one?
Nintendo Penguin #6 Posted July 20, 2003 I would have to go SNES. There are a lot of high quality games for that system that I have yet to beat.

Albert #8 Posted July 20, 2003 Tough question.. Definitely wouldn't want a portable if I'm only going to have access to a single system for an entire year. I'd want a system with a large library that has a good selection of high-quality, enjoyable games that will keep my interest. I think the Playstation 2 would fit the bill, because you can run the entire (massive) library of original Playstation titles, and take a selection of the better PS2 games as well. If you're an RPG fan, you could probably run through that year pretty quickly. ..Al
Nintendo Penguin #9 Posted July 20, 2003 Good answer Albert. I did not even consider backwards compatability... ...it hurts me to admit it, but PS2 might be the best choice here.
Avid Fan #10 Posted July 20, 2003 Most definately not a PS2. I like the system, but other than GTA 3 and VC, theres no other games that have replay value. I think I'd take a NES. I'd make a point to beat some games like Castlevania and Zelda 2, because I'm somewhat convinced that those games cant be beaten without an emulator. Hell, I couldn't even beat Zelda 2 with an emulator. I'm also convinced that I could get a million points in SMB. Is it possible?

I think there's a good complement of games on the PS2, and as I said before you'd have access to the entire library of PS1 games and there is a wealth of excellent titles available for it. However, I do agree the NES would also make a great system given its large and assorted library. You'd just want to make sure you get a top loader though.. ..Al
NovaXpress #13 Posted July 20, 2003 Zelda 2, because I'm somewhat convinced that those games cant be beaten without an emulator. I beat Zelda 2 within a couple weeks and beaten it several times since. I was never able to beat Super Mario Bros. Go figure. Throw in all the arcade collections and you really can't beat a PS2. Maybe a DC with all the emulators.
Brian R. #14 Posted July 20, 2003 I'd take a Dreamcast. Lots of good games, plus I'd be sure to bring along the keyboard to go online so I could do everything on the 'net.
surfnmadness #15 Posted July 20, 2003 MY PC.... So I can use every emulator to still have some contact with my collections as well as a way to still get on the internet and read the forums at AA.
Jasoco #16 Posted July 20, 2003 Damn. That's what I wanted to ask. Is the Keyboard even useful anymore? Is the Net even working? The DC has that Modem port (Would be better with a broadband connection) but is there any use for it anymore?
chrisbid #17 Posted July 20, 2003 you can browse the internet with a DC, but there is no more seganet for first party games. some third party games may still be online, but i dont know of any titles beyond the next tetris, and that game blew
Jasoco #18 Posted July 20, 2003 On the subjecto of Dreamcast Online stuff. Browsing the internet uses what? And what games still work? Is there any reason to get the keyboard? Just because it's there and would be a good addition.
rasty #19 Posted July 20, 2003 Tough question.. Definitely wouldn't want a portable if I'm only going to have access to a single system for an entire year. Unless it's a GP32.. I'd probably stick with an XBox since I could install a huge quantity of emulators and movies on the hard drive to keep me busy! Rasty.-

+DamonicFury #21 Posted July 21, 2003 Geez, folks... I thought I was on Atari-loving site! :-) In all seriousness, I really would want the good ol' 2600, if given my choice of consoles. Maybe I could finally get good at Kaboom! :-)

What I was getting at was that if you took a Dreamcast, you would have not only its games, but access to the Internet. I mean, you can go online with a DC through an ISP, right? I've never done it myself. No reason. I mean, if you're looking to keep yourself occupied for a while, any console and games are going to get stale after a while. With a DC and Internet access, you can keep up with the news, visit your message boards, bitch about movies, look at porn.... all the wonderful things we use the 'net for! AS long as you get the log-in information(which is needed for a PC too, but it's often hiddenf rom you) I mean, if you're looking to keep yourself occupied for a while, any console and games are going to get stale after a while.
