+acadiel
They make them 3D printed now. These are notorious for cracking. https://www.shapeways.com/product/CMBQ6D2Z4/alps-x-y-plotter-gear-qty-3-commodore-atari?li=shareProduct Edit: These were the brass ones people were talking about at one time: http://www.xtreme-production.com/xtreme/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=159_307&products_id=3013
+Ksarul
Nice, unfortunately, the metal ones have been out of stock for quite a while. . .it is good that the alternate source for them from Shapeways is out there.
+OLD CS1
This reminds me that I have to bite the bullet and get the resin printer I have been planning on.
+acadiel
Sorry for the necroposting - wanted to add this thread from VCFED: http://www.vcfed.org/forum/showthread.php?77055-NEW-Alps-printer-plotter-mech-pinion-gears Quote In the 80s Alps made a 4pen printer/plotter mech that everyone used. For Commodore it was the 1520 printer, for the Tandy is was the CGP-115. The picture here is from a Sharp CE-150 printer/cassette interface. They all now suffer from broken pinion gears. After searching for 2 years I think I found a manufacturer who can reproduce them at a reasonable price. They will be about $6/qty. 2. This all depends on the total quantity manufactured. Do you need new pinions? How many? Pass the word.

This is a really neat device and I would love to get it going, again. Really cool that all the brands used the same mechanism so when they all experience the same failure mode it can be easily fixed across the board. wierd_w
Why not just cast a resin gear replacement? It's what I did for my large format printer, after the goons from UPS dropped it. (The gear for the ink servicing station got shattered. I superglued it together, then cleaned it up with a file, then made a silicone mold out of some bathroom grade silicone caulk. Used the UV resin and the UV light to fill the mold, and produce a new gear.)

+Ksarul
I put my name in to order some of these, as I have a lot of random printers that use them.
