adam1977
Has anyone 3D printed new buttons for their 1010 cassette deck? I've just picked one up cheap and two of the buttons are broken. I've looked on Thingiverse to see if there's any files to download but I can't find any, a Google search didn't come up with anything either ? Any help will be greatly appreciated. xrbrevin
in the past i mended one by drilling a pilot hole and then driving a self-tapping screw in with superglue but a 3D printed one would be a great solution
adam1977
I've just bought a 3D printer and have just been looking into how to copy something, so I might see if I could make a copy of one of the good keys ?
Rybags
If you can pull it off you'd have a good ready made market. I think mine has 2 or 3 buttons with that fix, though I do suspect the belt turned to dust years ago.

xrbrevin
I finally got round to having a stab at it today. i received a 1010 that looked like its mouth had lost a fight with a cricket bat - all keys were damaged. 2 were bonded to a functional state but were misaligned and full of claggy glue. so here is the .stl file and a few sample images. i recommend using a support and i had to ream out the axle hole a bit but i ended up with a really nice fit 1010 key.stl
adam1977
Nice one ?
Rybags
Nice for sure. But is the plastic strong enough? The huge design fail of the 1010 is the ludicrously long thin finger that has to activate a mechanism that requires a fair amount of pressure. And the even bigger failure is that the required pressure increments with each extra button, ie play then play/rec then play/rec/pause (though you soon enough learnt to just leave pause alone. I might have used it as a replacement for another failed button one time.
adam1977
So i've finally finished the replacement key, after learning how to use Tinkercad, Cura etc and after six prototypes i'm really proud of my first 3D printing project ? https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4422199 Atari 1010 Key.stl 5
adam1977
As a little side project to this, i've been working on another part to help with broken 1010 keys, with this part i've designed you can use part of the original key and so your cassette recorder will look original: I hope these parts help the Atari community ? Rybags
Nice. Can you wipe acetone over these things to make them look more "factory" or doesn't it do any good?
adam1977
I might try lightly sanding one down and buffing it up with Autosol ?
