Lets make Snokie better !

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hey guys,

feeling kind of tired at the moment, and I'm taking a break from my "serious" projects !

So lets try a simple sprite hack just for laughs  :)

I love "Snokie", it was one of the first games I played in the 800, the task is to improve the awkward bird ! (is it a penguin ?)

Any pointers of where I can find a good copy, without the dreaded death jingle ?

It was one of my first A8 games too!

Best versions of games are here as usual, unfortunately with the dreaded death jingle...

What's the death jingle?

What this game needs - the graphics aren't the problem IMO.  The game itself is way too short.  16K Ram isn't it?  The real need is a decent sized game, like 3 times as big at least.

The dreaded death jingle if that's what it is seems to be part of the game?  Annoying yes, wrongly placed, no.

Anyway, I found a copy in the "Best Game Pack" Atari collection, without the annoying jingle..

The death jingle is on the bigger disk version only.

Still, I'm not sure why you would use the smaller tape edition. This one only shows the skull with no music when you die but it doesn't have the custom font and eliminates the high score list. Way less polished.

Done. Here's two versions:

v1: no jingle of death when you loose a life, but it plays when the game is over.

v2: no jingle at all.

Hope you like it. Regards!

Only 2 frames walking, 1 of them reused for jumping, and 1 when he falls..  this should be fast  ;)

Without annoying jingle (thanks Wilheim) and with TIX's upcoming improved graphics... it's time to complete the game.

I so wanted to love Snokie but I found it incredibly frustrating....Of course I cheated it (I cheated every thing in the end) but you can't out cheat the frustration :)

This is pretty much complete !

the jump frame couldn't be better, because it's shared as walk second frame..

other than that I'm pleased with it, and it renew my interest for other small sprite hacks ;)

Nice one, but why not use 3rd colour? I assume the sprite is made up of two players.

He came out great with 2 colors and didn't think about that..

It was not activated anyway !  :)

re-tweaked the second walking frame so that it can double up as a jump frame too,

so I'll add these plus some other small changes to the final version !
