This game is a masterpiece, definitely a must buy. Can't find a single thing I dislike about it.

It's like some guys sat in a conference room and brainstormed all the possible ways to make a game cool.

To elaborate, this is how I would describe a good Beamrider match.

The green curve represents the accumulation of lives. 

Red curve means deaths.

X-axis means game sectors.

 

The point where you seem to be dying is when you actually should be peaking on that green curve.

At that point you shouldn't have died a lot either, so you are able to stock up for the "winter" (sectors 18+).

I think I'm a long way from the "winter" - I'm barely out of spring! ? 

 

I missed a few bonuses by missing the Sentinel twice so not a great score. It's been a while since I played this last - definitely need some practice!

Here's a rule of thumb I use, for what is worth... I don't think I'm good anyway.

 

The longer you can keep:

 

stock of lives >= sector level #

 

... the better.

 

If you can keep that up at least until level 12, by my humble standards, I'd say you are doing well.

So all we have to do is accumulate a lot of lives and not die as often? Easy peasy! ?

 

I know what you mean though, I get very frustrated when I shoot an extra ship by accident because I know how much I'll need those later and how many bonus points I'll be missing out on

I like your analysis with the graph, lol.  But quite simply, my answer is that I have a hard time dodging everything that is coming at me beginning in Sector 12.  I like this game, but can't make it much farther than that.  I will be lucky to get to Sector 15 or 16, but will try again sometime.
