irombeach
Hello everyboby, thanks for let me join this magic forum! I'm a newbie of Atari 2600, I've just buy a nice light sixer with 16 games. All works pefectly, no AV mod for now. The only 'issue' is with two or three cartdrige (for ex. Motorodeo, red box) that are very 'hard to push in' into the console, and very 'hard to pull out'. At a first sight nothing different from the others. Any suggestion? The second question is about the console. Mine is a light sixer made in H.K., once opened I found: A stamp on the aluminium cover: July 21 1981. All the MOS chips are dated '81. Is it possible for a light sixer? Thanks in advance. +KaeruYojimbo
Later 2600 games used a different mold for the cartridge shells so they're a pretty snug fit in pre-junior consoles. It's perfectly normal and just something most of us learn to live with.
Starshipscavenger
One thing you might try is to "tip" the system when inserting a game. You tilt the console in an angle when you insert the game so that the cartridge port door falls back. This works for me.
edladdin
My Light Sixer was built in Taiwan in March 1981.
irombeach
Thanks to all. So I'll try to tilt&flip the console. So what's the difference between a console 'Made in Taiwan' and 'Made in Hong Kong'? Is H.K. the first production site out of Sunnyvale? Voxel
I've a few games that are a tight fit, did rub one down along the shoulders, it was too tight. Oddly I've got a slip in a VCS with the date as "12 MAR 1981", but the label with the manufacture on the base has long since come off and I can't recall the place of manufacture, though I always thought it as being Taiwanese, like my others. Voxel
Just checked Wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atari_2600 Under minor revisions, it indicates HK was the first to manufacture the light sixer model.
