leech #1 Posted June 4, 2020 Anyone potentially interested in a Spartados X Setup script? Basically a .BAT file that will ask you what hardware you have, and then proceed to ask you to insert specific ATRs to copy software over (like for example the toolkit for sdx). I'm thinking maybe we could include a .map file for the various disks that you'd need to swap with SIDE2 as well. This way we could get an automated setup for people with at least the SIDE2 and/or U1MB/Incognito combination. We'd probably also want a list of applications that we know work on SDX and then can add them into the script as options. I now for my own setup, something that'd copy over the vbxe driver and put it in place and then modify the config.sys and autoexec.bat to utilize it. Really shouldn't be that hard to do, I'm just looking for suggestions on what applications people would want, what sort of minimal setup to shoot for, etc. I think requiring Incognito or U1MB w/SIDE(1-3) would be the way to go. Though I suppose we could do one for MyIDE as well (I have one of them as well, though have not had time to really try to set up any sort of image on it.)
TGB1718 #2 Posted June 5, 2020 I think the obvious one would be FATFS.SYS
_The Doctor__ #3 Posted June 5, 2020 This is going to be one heck of a which way book, nice idea. Maybe a place to start is the installation manuals... of everything :O Once each is transformed into software install mediums, then comes the work of adding variations around the different environments and hardware... some from those guides/manuals, some from real world answers found in the forums. I think this is a great idea, I sure hope a couple more cat herders join in... to help in the endevour.

But most definitely a which way book! (I always wanted to try writing one of those)
_The Doctor__ #5 Posted June 5, 2020 (edited) There are different real time clocks use-able across some DOS types, though a definitive grouping of drivers for them by version type and used DOS wasn't compended. SpartaDos, SpartaDOS X, RealDOS, DOS-XE, even some DOS 2.5 ones existed. Though sometimes software just grabbed the time directly..... leech #8 Posted June 5, 2020 Well, I have the 300~ page PDF copied over to my 10" ink reader, so easy reference while working on this. 2 hours ago, ebiguy said: I am very interesting in this list of applications. Yeah, hoping we can get some contributions, or even just a list of things that will even work on a Spartados install. So far I literally just have The Last Word. Though currently install for the VBXE is a matter of copying over the 3.21 files, then copying over the 3.31 beta, and then changing config.sys and lw.sys. I guess we could start a list by picking useful categories, then within those the preferred categories applications to test compatibility. A sort of best of breed.
