Foxy Cleopatra #1 Posted July 23, 2003 Because Ulala is so sexy, the aliens are so cute, the music is so groovy, and the dance moves are so fresh... I still have yet to get past the opposite part... anybody else get past it? How close to the end of the game is that? right, left, up, down, shoot shoot shoot
+-^CrossBow^- #2 Posted July 23, 2003 Hehe...the controls are the problem in that game. I have managed to get through this section once. Try and pick up SC5 part 2...much better, graphically, aurally...and controls are much tighter with a better tolerance. However, I won't go so far as to say SC5 is the best game ever..but I really do enjoy playing it. Hell, my 3 year old knows his left from his right simply because of this game!!! I am not kidding...and who says video games aren't educational?! However, it is disturbing to see him with a comb, brush, water gun in his hand...spouting Left, Right, Left, Right, Shoot, Shoot, Shoot. hehehe
Foxy Cleopatra #3 Posted July 23, 2003 I didn't know there was a Space Channel 5- 2 ! What system is it on?
Lost Monkey #4 Posted July 23, 2003 I guess if one has never played SC5-2, one wouldn't have a problem with the controls on SC5? I say that because I have never had a problem with the controls.. but I also have never finished it despite having bought it the week it was released. I think I might be interested in the DC import of "2" though.. hmmm... *checks eBay* Ack!: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...1&category=4313 There is also a regular Japanese version which seems to run around $40.. And a PS2 version...
ubersaurus #5 Posted July 23, 2003 I heard the PS2 one is coming stateside within the next few months...gamefaqs says november. I can't wait. I hear its just sooo much better then even the first.
chrisbid #6 Posted July 23, 2003 space channel five is godlike ive beaten the game several times just becuase it is so much fun to play, i also nabbed the import of the game just because now that being said part 2 is incredible http://homepage.mac.com/chrisbid/SC5P2.mp4 <--- this file will play in Quicktime 6 The major difference, is instead of a streaming MPEG in the background, the background graphics are now rendered by the system. They arent nearly as sharp as the old backgrounds, but everything is in much better synch, and the style is back, and in this one, you can unlock different outfits for Ulala as well as other characters to play as note - im uploading the movie at the moment, so it may not be quite ready yet (dam 56k)
joeybastard #7 Posted July 23, 2003 SC5 is in my top 10 all time favorite games. It's just plain fun and beautifully done. My wife likes to watch me play it becuase I get so amped up trying to keep up with the moves. I think I'll try and fine me the import of SC5-2. Is it only in Japenese?
+-^CrossBow^- #8 Posted July 23, 2003 Yes the DC version of Space Channel 5 part 2 is only in Japanese. However, do not let this detour you from trying to snag it. All the commands are in still in english such as the Up, down, down, up type stuff. The only parts in Japanese are the menu selections, which you quickly figure out what does what. And the of course the speech during the story sections and cutscenes are in Japanese. There is subtitles available...but those too are Japanese only. Still the game is totally playable regardless. You will need to get a converter disc to play it since it is set to Japanese region on the disc. But that can be downloaded and burned easy enough. And yes, you will understand why the controls are problamatic in the first one after playing the second one. I also think the rendering of the background looks sharper overall than the first one with the mpeg video backgrounds. Basically the characters always looked detached from the main backgrounds in the first one. In the second one they have some wild camera angles they use and the whole scene looks much more complete and whole. As for the PS2...I thought that Space Channel 5 part 1 and 2 had already been released here in the States? I thought that was done like over a year ago? I have thought about picking it up simply so that I can play part 2 and hopefully catch the story that I have to pick together from the Japanese only one I have now for my DC...hehe. Happy_Dude #9 Posted July 23, 2003 This game is awsome. I finished it in two days. Man I hated that last dude with the backwards controls (left = right & up = down ) I don't need to play SC-2 to know SC-1's controls where bad. Anyone with basic rhythm could tell they where off. Although I only seemed to mess up at SPACE MICHALE for some reason. (and the evil Ulala robot sometimes ) @Foxy Cleopatra, I do beleive thats pretty much the end. it does a wrap around to level 1 but I haven't played past that (yet) so I don't know if its the real end or not The thing that pissed me off about the last boss is the fact that if you fail you have to fight evil Ulala "again" (and again)
+-^CrossBow^- #10 Posted July 23, 2003 Both games to repeat if you play them over. However, if you load up your previous game and beat it and then start playing again, you will notice that the patterns change. In other words the game will be slightly different. This is more evident in SC5 p2 than it is in 1 but there are still changes in the patterns. And yes, I was a concernt band player for almost 8 years and in marching band for 4 years of that...so I knew the controls and timing weren't correct in the first game. The second game is much better about this and is more tolerant of the syncopated rhythms they tend to use. Still originally played out games even if they are more or less....SIMON. But oh my...SIMON never looked sooooo goood!!!
Miqorz #11 Posted July 23, 2003 Wow I've owned 2 Deamcast and I have never even touched this game.. I saw it at Best Buy brand new for 5 bucks but I would feel stupid walking up to the counter with that game..
Zach #12 Posted July 23, 2003 Foxy, Thanks for starting a thread extolling Space Channel 5. There's a simple trick that makes the opposite part much easier: *** Hold the controller upside-down. *** Let us know how it goes... Zach
Foxy Cleopatra #13 Posted July 23, 2003 Foxy, Thanks for starting a thread extolling Space Channel 5. There's a simple trick that makes the opposite part much easier: *** Hold the controller upside-down. *** Let us know how it goes... Zach What a great idea! I never even thought of that! I'm going to try it tonight. @ Happy Dude - thanks for being the first to answer my question about how far along in the game I am, it's nice to know after all these years (yes years - and you all just shut up about my lack of rhythm ) I may be close to beating this game! +kisrael #14 Posted July 24, 2003 The controls for that game suck like a thousand dollar whore. Did you heart that Lady Miss Kier from Deee-lite is suing 'em? http://www.rollingstone.com/news/newsartic...e.asp?nid=17976 I think it's a pretty weak case myself, even though I loved the group. (Although the fact they offered her money for her likeness at first makes the case a bit stronger than it would be.)
Raijin Z #15 Posted July 24, 2003 EHK! That skank looks like Eddy Izzard after a week-long coke binge! I thought Ulala was more Ooh-la-la than Ew-hhurgh-blahh. I say the "original" looks like a sick parody of the "copy".

Raijin Z #17 Posted July 24, 2003 Well, look at Germany in 1936, then in 1946. What a difference ten years can make.
Jasoco #18 Posted July 24, 2003 The Game Stop near me has a copy for Dreamcast. I keep looking at it every day. Maybe I should grab it next time.
junglehunter #19 Posted July 25, 2003 I like how the designers put in bios for all the characters (including the aliens). I would have liked the game to be a bit more lenghty. I think the total length of the game is like 45 minutes nonstop (or near that). But still good for $5.
+kisrael #20 Posted July 25, 2003 Well, look at Germany in 1936, then in 1946. What a difference ten years can make. Wow. I can't believe you're already coming that close to bringing up Godwin's Law (the one that says once people start talkin' on a message board about someone being like the Nazis, any chance that the conversation will be productive is Nil)
KaineMaxwell #21 Posted July 26, 2003 I got SC5 for like $2.99 a couple months ago and enjoy it. Even though I can't get past the first section..damn controls.
+kisrael #22 Posted July 26, 2003 I got SC5 for like $2.99 a couple months ago and enjoy it. Even though I can't get past the first section..damn controls. yes. this is the harshest game. I think you can look up a cheat code that'll let the game play by itself so you can see it all at least...

ubersaurus #24 Posted July 26, 2003 I seen that at gamestop. My friend picked it up because she's a big sc5 fan, and says it plays pretty much like the original. Timing is as rough as it is in the dreamcast one, and its portable.
chrisbid #25 Posted July 26, 2003 you people are lame, just practice for a little bit, and the timing will become natural
