...can I successfully install the Marpet memory expansion into my 1040ST? I have some experience with electronics, but I really don't want to mess up the motherboard.

A little bit of soldering is required to deactivate the onboard memory if you want to upgrade to max 4Mb. Have you checkad that the desired machine has socket on shifter and MMU?

Not yet. I have downloaded the manual and it seems the first thing is to identify what motherboard you have.

Does anyone know any place in the US that would do the memory upgrade? I have no problem with UK, Europe, or elsewhere except for the postage and time.
