2600 Audio Mod - Only getting one channel

Hi,

Can anyone offer any suggestions regarding this 2600 with A/V MOD?

It's all working fine, but I'm only getting audio out of one channel.  All the connections look good to me, I'm at a loss as to what to try.

The audio to to white port (2nd from right) works, the middle one is just silent.  At the least, is there an easy way to get both channels merged into that one output?

Thanks!

Your connection to TIA 13 looks like a cold joint to me, but the resolution of your images is too low to tell if it's just in shadow.  If you have a multimeter, I would use it to check from that pin(the pin itself, where it is not covered in solder) to the brown wire's connection on the mod board for high resistance.  Also check if that pin is shorted to ground.

In any case, if you haven't added flux and then reflowed all of the brown wire connections, you might want to do so.

OK, so the white pin on the TIA wasn't connected properly, but there also doesn't seem to be anything coming from that pin at all ?

[EDIT]

Confirmed - Nothing coming out of TIA 12

Is this a dead chip or anything else anyone can suggest?

I'm a bit confused, didn't you say that the white port was the one was working?  That's what is connected to the white wire with the brown stripe, isn't it?

What games are you using to test?  Some games don't actually use both channels.

I thought it was, but its actually PIN 12.

I've been using a bunch of homebrew - Mostly Juno First and Thrust

So if you plug in combat you are only hearing sounds from one of the players then? If so, it might be worth it to swap the wires and see if the issue is with the TIA chip itself or something on the AV upgrade board perhaps?

If you find that the issue is only with the AV board, then you can simply tie both of the wires from the pins off the TIA to the one audio on the AV board that appears to be working. Then from there, the single audio output line that is working from the AV board, you route it to both left/right RCAs to at least get yourself dual mono.
