*New* pictures of our Atari 8-bit setups

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I really enjoyed looking through the "Old pictures of our Atari 8-bit setups" thread, but it made feel a bit sad since I don't think I have a single photo of my beloved Atari 800 from back in the day.

But, at least I can take photos of my "new" Atari 8bit computer setup, and I thought it would be fun to see what other people have and how they've setup everything. So, I'll start it off with my current setup. Both the 800 and 130XE were acquired from Atariage members over the past couple of weeks, and I am thrilled to have Atari computers again after nearly 2 decades. They are both in superb condition and very clean. The monitor is a Sony PVM-2030.

Star Raiders appropriately displayed as a work of art

Lovely 800 with no yellowing (it may look a bit in photos but in real life it's not)

atari-setup-5.thumb.jpg.2499ad6241580fbd1233fc16ff885383.jpg

Equally lovely 130XE with fully working keyboard and RAM (so happy!)

Young and old, but both supermodels 🙂

Yeah, I like Repton a lot (plus it helped me diagnose a bad RAM card)

OK, there's mine, now show me yours. I know many of you have amazing Atari 8bit setups, so let's see 'em!

This is one of my currently-setup A8 machines. I like this particular setup because I had an 800 and 1050 through the last couple high school years, and the one I had back then was sitting on this very desk, built by my step-dad.

I love those PVM 2030s. I used to have one.

Nice setup.

Great setups!

I only have a few pictures of my original Atari system (one is below), before I parted with everything except my then-limited Atari books collection (Compute! books only) and was unceremoniously sucked into the PC and Microsoft vortex...

A few years ago, burned out from the PC life, I decided I needed Atari back in my life and— apart from a boatload of Atari gear NOT pictured that I have in storage right now— here's where things stand currently with my 1200XL workstation and accompanying collection...

Good stuff!

@Timothy Kline Man, I kinda lust after the 1200XL. Back when it came out I wanted one so bad, but I was a kid and damn lucky to have my 800. I bow to your awesome Atari setup!

Hard to find in the UK

When I see stuff like this displayed so nicely I also feel jealous yet I had a lot of stuff BITD but displaying it was never my strong point, instead it sat in piles or in boxes in the corner..

Not pretty...

I'm just happy that I had the disposable income at the time to build the collection and workstation to where it stands, because a year ago March that all ended when I lost my job of 10 years-- bringing to a close the EBay and Goodwill Stores hunting and adopting of Atari items. My first sacrifice was rehoming my "50 Shades of Yellow" 1200XL collection to two very kind and generous Atari-Agers in order to have some emergency funds while I sorted out what to do after being shown the door by my employer for asking that a workplace bully be redressed. The stress of that whole situation took a pretty hefty toll on my health over the previous six years to the point where the doctors were warning me I was headed for a heart attack. I finally put my foot down and so the company did, too. The co-owner's son's still there, still being enabled... but I'm slowly on the mend.

This is my dream collection at this point, and I'm more than content with it and appreciate it because the time may come when I'll need to rehome it, too.

Everyone's setup is so nicely organized.  I try my best, but it still looks cluttered.  Can't seem to rid myself of stuff.  When I did sell stuff, I wish I hadn't a month later.  Then I spend double to get it back in the collection.  A sickness, I know.

Mine is sort of in between mostly because I spend most of my time archiving stuff for you guys. I should spend more time on an actual Atari.

@Timothy Kline  What are those Hybrid Arts boxes you have? Do you have any of the manuals?

Don't feel bad...here's my setup:

48 Sad Salesman Videos and HD Footage

Realizing I don't have any Atari hardware since 1992 or so and am trying to rebuild from scratch....

Hey there, @Allan,

The three larger boxes (one was mistakenly inside the storage cabinet) are their MidiMate packages (2 x MIDIMate III, 1 x MIDIMate II), and the smaller but similarly-styled case is their MidiPatch. I haven't made it to the sound apps yet (I had adopted a compatible Casio keyboard to go-with for when I finally do), but a brief glance just now and it looks like (not counting the included MidiMate devices themselves) the manuals and floppies are present and accounted for. I believe I have maybe 3 more orphaned (no case, no docs, no discs) MidiMate devices, too, but those I keep in a storage drawer.

--Tim

Addendum: The MIDIMate II is lacking the manual/docs but I might have put them in my file cabinet with all the other documentation I've accumulated. But maybe not. I'm still in the process of inventorying everything, believe it or not! /facepalm

So your saying the bigger boxes just have the Midi-mates in them with no software or manuals and the smaller box is the Casio CZ-101/1000 midi-patch like the one below?

I must've been typing up an edit of my post...  but the only one that doesn't seem to have docs/manual is the MIDIMate II box/case. . . just the original disk for MIDIMate II.

I have the original manuals/docs/disks for the MIDIMate III set, however.

Hope that was less confusing?

So the MidiMates include a copy of either MidiTrack I (48K) , MidiTrack II (64K) or MidiTrackIII (130Xe).

This is interesting...

Alright, so as I mentioned, the specific MIDIMate II package might not have its manual (I'm going to assume no at this point) but...

In one of the MIDIMate III packages there IS a MIDIMate II manual with the MIDIMate III Addendum for the 130XE release... whereas the other MIDIMate III package has a spiral-bound manual specific to the III.

It would be great if you could scan those two one day.

I found the MidiMate Patch for the Yamaha ATX.

Also included a picture of my set-up.

Here is my setups.  The 800XL and the 2600 share a 32" flat screen TV I bought brand new for $50.

Found the 800XL when I was in a local used game store when I was looking for 2600 games. First one I've ever seen in the flesh.

Also have an Uno Cart and around 10 games for it.  Bought it before everything went to hell.  So far enjoying it.
