this was one of the first production run xl's, serial #36,381 early-mid 1983

i hope i can say the same for my xbox one in 2050

I should check the 3 I have.  Get a U1MB in there.  Lots of cool uses!

If only u1mb cost the same as 8 256k x1bit drams

$250 usd for side3 and u1mb,

Side3 is useful for me, sdx and mac65+ddt is really all I really want it for, since I have enough ram to load everything else via sio2sd

It's on that list which keeps getting longer?

I still gotta finish my 6502 computer project, many different projects limited amount of time......and money......... r&d isn't  the cheapest thing

I should call it the atari 200, 64k+128bytes ram, 8910, atmega644 pretty much to automate video and as a co-processor

You probably could replace the riot chip with an avr too....

Not my most current "set-up." but the way it was when this thread was started. It's basically the same now, just things rearranged. And certainly not all of it, I'd need a panoramic shot or more pictures. But I've posted many pictures in threads here and in an album on Atari Owner's Club site: https://atari-owner.com/club/media/albums/m-d-bakers-xl-command-center.5/

I always wanted my monitor on top of the drives, but apparently that wasn't a good idea BITD with CRT monitors ;)  Nice setup!

I was wondering what he found that lets them sit at the perfect height so cables can be routed under.  That is a really clean set up on that 1200xl.

Yes, that is true. Though I have the interior case of my 1084 monitor and PC speakers painted with a coating that blocks EMF/EMR's so I put my CRT monitor on top anyway. since I learned of the stuff in the early 2000's. The 1084 just has not been working now for a few years. I'll repair it one of these days, or find a good 14-15" Trinitron monitor and coat it too.

I made a stand the same height as the 1200XL, for the disk drives out of wood and painted it to match the XL white, just like the stand the 1020 is sitting on in one picture. I actually posted a picture of it recently in another thread, I think one of the threads about 80-columns got derailed shortly with pictures of monitor stands. I have a stand now for my 800 too, not in the picture there (I'm always re-arranging and improving). Here's the latest pic of my 800 below (which now has Incognito, PokeyMax Quad+Covox, Sophia 2 and a PBI out the back with Turbo Freezer 2011 and port mods underneath and Fujinet!). My 1200XL is still set-up the same

except the disk drive and 1020/1020 are now on opposite sides.

I always wonder, how do you keep this dust free? Do you go over it every week wiith a vaccuum cleaner? Or dust rags?

Yes, it's a nearly daily chore with a feather duster and cleaning the stuff with a damp rag less often, but especially here in Oklahoma, there is always a lot of dust. I intend to get dust covers for everything. It's a labor of love. A full spring-cleaning and some repairs to the built-in desk and shelving is very near.

I like the XE styled mouse.

Thank you. Just an STM1 mouse, painted to match the XL motif, it's perfect since XL/XE/ST's all had the same basic wedge shaped computers and the mouse was designed to match the ST. I used it 15 years ago with my 130XE and it was still grey. But I sold the XE and painted it to match my 1200XL. I cut down a mouse pad to fit perfectly on my touch-tablet to use as a mouse pad when I'm not using the touch tablet. just to conserve space and make it neater looking. The STM1 is high-res enough to work within the smaller touch-tablet space perfectly.

That does look cool.  What is a mouse used for on an Atari8?

Numerous GOS systems (Diamond, BOSS, ATOS, SAM) and versions of light-gun games from Europe where mice were used more with XE's, like Operation Blood, and several graphic art programs and I have a driver to move the cursor around with it when in standard E: screen mode too!

Just noticed you have a mirror there in front of the 810.  For some 80s style cocaine!  :P

LOL! That's actually for the Starmaster joystick sitting on top of it; it has suction cups for one-handed pistol-grip action! I had an old mirror laying around and not an old pane of glass; it's screwed down to the desktop. The Starmaster and the Genesis controller next to it have both been converted to Joy2B controllers. I use both depending on the type of game and which works for me better with a particular game.
