Room 34 #1 Posted July 24, 2003 It's a frequent suggestion that we share our top 10 games for this system or that system, but I'd like to see what people think are the top 10 games for ALL classic game systems. For purposes of this thread, I will define "classic" game systems as those that were available before 1990. So anything from the Fairchild Channel F through NES, SMS and Atari 7800. My list, biased to the handful of these systems I've actually played with any regularity, is given below. ROOM 34's TOP TEN CLASSIC GAMES (as of right now) 10. Astrosmash (Intellivision) 9. Stargate (Atari 2600) 8. Circus Atari (Atari 2600) 7. Solaris (Atari 2600) 6. Kaboom! (Atari 2600) 5. Mega Man (NES) 4. Joust (Atari 7800) 3. Yars' Revenge (Atari 2600) 2. H.E.R.O. (Atari 2600) 1. Super Mario Bros. (NES) (OK... I spent more time coming up with the topic than with my list... so I reserve the right to revise it when I give it more thought!) MegaManFan #2 Posted July 24, 2003 Please don't revise Mega Man out of it. Or if you do, upgrade it to Mega Man 2. I'd post my list, but I'm trying to get ready to leave for Austin so I'll be back once the thread gets longer.
Room 34 #3 Posted July 24, 2003 Don't worry... Mega Man's a certified classic.
Inky #4 Posted July 24, 2003 10 across all classic platforms, eh? 10) WarGames (CV) 9) Gradius (NES) 8 ) Xevious (78) 7) Space Dungeon (52) 6) Dodge 'Em (26) 5) Pitfall 2 (26) 4) Tapper (CV or 26) 3) Circus! (26) 2) Zelda 1 (NES) 1) Stargate (26)
JB #5 Posted July 24, 2003 In no particular order, and keeping it out of the arcades... Warlords(VCS) Super Breakout(VCS) River Raid(VCS) Space Dungeon(5200) Crystalis(NES) Metal Storm(NES) Qix(Gameboy) Tetris(Gameboy) MineStorm(Vectrex) Berzerk(Vectrex) Editorial notes: Space Dungeon rules. Crystalis beats Zelda by miles. Metal Storm is a must-play for every NES fan. 5200 Qix is really hurt by what feel to be some questionable decisions about input routine behavior. Otherwise, it would've been on the list instead of the GB version. GB Tetris is portable. That places it over other versions. I'm aware Vectrex Berzerk is hardly the best version. It's still my favorite. I don't have to be rational about it.
birdie3 #6 Posted July 24, 2003 In no particular order: Galaga - NES Real Sports Volley Ball - Atari 2600 Spy Hunter - CV River Raid - Atari 2600 Tetris - NES INTV Baseball - Atari 2600 Ghosts and Goblins - NES Ballblazer - Atari 7800 Stargate - Atari 2600 HERO - CV
jeezy9 #7 Posted July 24, 2003 we played joust for the atari 800 last night for the first time in about 10 years and it was as much fun, if not moreso, than it was back then. i loved megaman 1-3 for NES, played those games for hours on end. i think it was either the 2nd or 3rd one i couldnt beat. and what about MULE. wasnt that on a bunch of systems too? shouldnt that be included on this list?
joeybastard #8 Posted July 24, 2003 10. River City Ransom - NES 9. Megaman 2 - NES 8. Pressure Cooker - 2600 7. Countermeasure - 5200 6. SMB1 - NES 5. Miner 2049er - CV 4. Jumpman - C64 3. SMB2 - NES 2. HERO - CV 1. Kaboom - 2600 This is very tough to keep to 10. I would think some of these rotate out with other games on almost a daily basis.
