DD vs. HD floppy writing

Hi all, I may have asked this before, but when you are writing to a floppy using an HD drive writing in DD format, is the layout of the magnetic elements the same?  Is the tracks, width/height the same as if writing on a DD drive, or is there some difference in the magnetic field, layout of the individual elements, etc. when writing with an HD drive in DD format?  Obviously in HD format writing will create different sizes and(?) strength of the magnetic elements, but is that the same form that an HD drive writes as a DD format?
