Yup... I'm definitely a pincher. It's the best I've found, personally, to get enough leverage to work those things.

 

Even my second controller still has some nice click left to the side buttons, but it's really not THAT much easier in the long run. Imo.

I do the pinching technique on certain games.... but my thumb is worse than my finger..., so I’m using my finger! My thumb has permanent ligament damage from playing Space Gunner on Sharp Shot. (All worth it by the way)

For Space Armada, I hold the controller in my left hand and press the upper right side button with my left middle finger while using my right thumb on the disc.

For Space Armada I hold the controller in both hands. Use left thumb for the side shoot button and right thumb for the disc directional.

The cool thing is that the controller can be held in so many different ways. My sister used to cradle it in her right hand, index and middle finger wrapped around for fire buttons, and would use the tip of her left index finger on the disk. I shit you not.

 

Normal controllers don't give you that... ahead of its time! ?

Love it! I may be in the minority on this, but I actually love the controllers. They’re so unique and quirky, they added more complexity to many games, and I’ve never had any problems with them that other people on this site claim. My son, of course, thinks their garbage. Lol.

As it was my first video game system, it's the controller I measure all others against and I still think the disc is the best option out there for hand controllers.  A d-pad is essentially a limited directional disc after all...  ?

Exactly!  The disc was the pioneer for all D-pads, which I loved as well...and still prefer to any analog stick.
