+Larry
I have a new install on a WIN7 X64 laptop of APE (registered) 3.11 after installing the ApeTrial 3.02 version. Everything appears to install correctly, and I get no warning messages. I checked and Windows says the 64-bit drivers are installed. The APE USB adapter lights up when I launch the program, and everything seems great -- except that I cannot attach any ATRs nor create any new ATRs. I uninstalled APE then re-installed both, but same story. I'm going to email Steve, but thought I'd check first to see if anyone has run across something like this before. My normal installs are all for 32-bit Windows, but I have installed APE successfully on an X64 Desktop once. Thinking about installing a 32-bit Win7 system on this machine if I can't get this sorted out. Any ideas?
bfollowell
I've only used 64-bit systems for about fourteen years now and I've never had any trouble whatsoever installing and using APE. So, you get no kind of error messages or anything like that at all? You say you can't attach or create new ATRs. What, exactly, happens when you try to do this? +Larry
No warnings or error messages at all. When I attempt to create a new ATR, the dialogue boxes open as intended, but I cannot place the cursor in the ATR title/name. If I type, nothing is displayed. Win7 has had all it's updates, and I have Windows defender as the Antivirus.
bfollowell
Hmmmm... It sounds strange. I've definitely never experienced anything even remotely like that. I looked back at when I bought my SIO2PC-USB, and I've only ever used mine with Windows 7 64-bit and Windows 10 64-bit. First of all, do you see the initialization messages in APE? Where it says [Device Manager] APE USB interface detected and configured? Secondly, what do you see in Device Manager? You should see something like this? Finally, when you say v3.11, do you mean 3.0.11, or 3.11? I'm using v3.0.14 registered, and I've been told that that is the latest version available. Also, if I understood your post correctly, you have the trial and the registered version both installed. Why? If you're a registered user, you should just be using the registered version and should have only one install. Delete everything and reinstall the full registered version only. +Larry
Yes, all present. Everything looks completely normal except the ATRs. I'll try that, but I think I have always had to install the trial version first. Yes. 3.0.11. It is all I want/need, but I'm thinking that maybe Steve sent me a X86 version only. I should find that out when he gets back to me. I believe that's the way it works (for me) -- it's an update/upgrade, but as I said, I'll try it. Edit: OK, tried it. If I uninstall APE, then when I try to run the 3.0.11 upgrade, it searches for the trial version and give me an error message that I need to install the Shareware version before I apply the upgrade. I'll try 3.0.13 (I already have it). But I suspect it will be the same story. Edit2: Color me perplexed -- 3.0.13 installs perfectly, and single install just as you say. The GUI is a little messed up, but it works perfectly. My 3.0.13 was a WIP when Mr-Atari was adding cassette functions to the MyIDE, so that may account for the GUI not being quite right -- it is cut off on the right side and the bottom, and it can't be fixed by stretching. I'll need to wait for Steve to get a proper version. Thanks for your suggestions.
bfollowell
Good, at least you're back in business. I know from experience, and from a recent thread, that Steve is really scarce lately. Real life, work, family, and all that. I hope you hear back quickly, but don't be surprised if you go a few weeks and don't hear anything. If you don't hear anything in a couple of weeks, try him again. He does eventually get back, but he is extremely busy. You may also look into trying the AtariMax forums. Users there are mostly fellow AtariMax device owners and are usually willing to help, though those forums don't get anywhere near the traffic these do here at AtariAge.
