The PSU threw me, I initially thought it was an ingot because of the extruded shape and left a message but then it hit me that it wasn't smooth so wasn't an ingot. None of mine match that PSU..

Sounds like an ingot ie epoxy filled or just huge transformer? It didn't sound hollow when he moved it about..

Poor Neil didn't know a lot about the Atari though apart from researched stuff, clearly more an Amstrad and Speccy man...

Also, was it me or did the keyboard test bit look like it was randomly picking keys even after he picked it off the table?

Hi Paul -  Re the keyboard - It was the Self Test Easter Egg - As explained by Scottith Games on YouTube: "EASTER EGG: When running the full diagnostic test on a 1200XL, the keyboard will spell out the programmer's name, "michael colburn". This was removed with the 600XL and 800XL, with the keyboard test now spelling out "Copyright 1982 Atari"...

How are you doing CWC, nice to hear from you..

I genuinely had no clue about all that, as the 1200XL never made it here and the 600/800XL easter egg never got mentioned back there (well not to me), I was too busy selling them :)

Learning something new every day :)

That tune must have stuck in my subconscious for years. When my kids were small we took them to the MSU Children's Garden and I tried to hop that tune for them on the dance chimes. Little did I know that as a high school senior my son would make first trumpet at All-State Band and would perform that solo from Pictures at an Exhibition!

RetroManCave's video was on an 800xl, so did it make it into some of them?  Guess I could try it on my various systems.

Man, I love those cassette clamshell cases for Goonies, Spy Hunter, and Quasimodo. First time I've ever seen them. Were they very common in the Europe?

When I look at all the tapes I have here (lots of), only two of them have those cases. So I would say, no, not very common. But that´s just me. I´m not representing the whole of  Europe. ;)

I just did a quick scan on Ebay UK and found 9 of them. So, yeah, they don't look common -- as I suspected.

It looks like a lot of them are from DataByte and U.S. Gold.

Just watching this tonight - someone please tell him that his 800XL is NOT supposed to be the gray color of that XC12. XL ≠ XE!

Ha, I do believe he does say that there was a tape drive with the same style as the XL series.  Can't recall if he mentions the 1010 specifically though.

My concern was piqued because he specifically says that he thought the white part of that 800XL case should look like that XC program recorder. #NO! :)

Apparently the 600XL and 800XL keyboard tests spell out "Copyright 1982 Atari".

Sorry about the flash, it's a bit early to light it naturally :)

edit: found 2 more:

Man, I'd really love to collect these things; but seeing they were exclusive to Europe, I'd be killed by the shipping costs. I don't remember shipping from Europe being so exorbitant for such small items a few years back. I guess things have changed...
