StanJr
I wouldn't know as I have never beat the Monster. But someday, Monster! Someday!!!!! See, I told you I would beat it! And yes, it is a "winnable" game, although the ending is a bit odd.
rickb20
I've never played it, but I would guess that the game would end or that you would win when you've solved the puzzle Rick
Godzilla
has anyone ever beat solaris without cheating? (ergo, tho meant to have an ending, is the game as programmed actually 'winnable' ?)
Sharky
Frankenstein's Monster has an ending and even an ending sequence! (woo!) Don't know why.. but I keep liking that game! Rasty.- Hardly, I never knew that till now after I just finished it using Stella with Save States. But now I know, but I wont mention any spoilers here. KevinMos3
You can "win" in X-man.. just finish the maze.. then you get to one of the three action scenes, and if you wiggle the joystick at just the right frequency, you win! Thrust and Jammed Ahem... phrasing.

Deteacher
Fatal Run has a nice ending sequence when you finish the game. Blackjack ends when you reach 1,000 chips (a.k.a. "breaking the bank.") Breakout kind of ends when you clear 2 boards. You just keep hitting the ball against an empty board until you lose all your balls. Dauber
Just wondering how many of the "winnable" games cited (I don't have most of 'em!) are not so much winnable but come to an end...as in, kill screen.... Case in point: The Activision Decathlon. There's a kill screen in the pole vault if you get high enough. You know you're approaching it if suddenly the bar only goes up to the height of the mat, but then as you ascend the bar actually grows corresponding to your height. After getting past a few of those, the game goes nuts and your character just floats backwards across the screen and wraps around in an endless loop.... JQW
Riddle of the Sphinx (if I remember correctly). Indeed it was.
JQW
Riddle was a very simple game with the easiest setting, you simply just had to reach the end of the map without gathering specific objects. The harder variants included quests for certain items. On the hardest level you needed to acquire a specific to pass the final barrier, and that item was somewhat difficult to locate. I recall finding it by accident on my first run through, though, and remembered that on subsequent plays.
flammingcowz
It would be cool if someone with an Atari 2600 related web site had a database similar to AtariAge where you could find games of certain types. Find games with endings, find games that feature randomness in a major way, find all driving games, find all Breakout type games, and so on. Is there anything like this now? It's been a long time since it was posted

Lentzquest
Some games can be won, but then loop: Ghostbusters Krull Masters of the Universe I Want My Mommy just freezes after the second screen (at least my copy does), so I guess you can say you've won. raskar42
I wouldn't know as I have never beat the Monster. But someday, Monster! Someday!!!!! this sounds bad out of context. See, I told you I would beat it! And yes, it is a "winnable" game, although the ending is a bit odd. this makes it so much worse. rbudrick
Reviving a bit of an oldie here, but this has always been a topic that interested me. I've always wanted a complete list of VCS games that are winnable, breaking it down to those that have endings, loop, or just end. Anyway, I don't think anyone mentioned Mountain King, so there. -Rob

IHATETHEBEARS
I was about to mention FATHOM. But a few posts up, I was beat to it. What about Blueprint? Back in the day I never got all eight letters. I got seven of them - T-E-A-L-P-H-E. I seem to recall reading that the last letter was to be an N - so the mystery word spelled ELEPHANT - which was supposed to be the name of a future game or something. So what happens if you get all eight? Anything?
