changing drive names

Was reading an issues of Compute!  and they indicated that I can change the drive icon names using a text editor on the desktop.inf file.  Is that still a doable thing, anyone done it that way before?  Thanks

That's certainly possible. But need to know exact format of it. With little experimenting and good Hex editor can be done.

However, there is straight way to do it: Select drive icon on Desktop, Options, Install Disk Drive, cursor down or click on lower editable line, edit text for Icon label, Install .

When happy with names can Save Desktop .

I used Everest iirc but any decent text editor should be ok. Maybe use the control panel to change colours too?
