The first 7 are from my old notes and I only added them to the list after 1882368 turned up, I'm 99% sure I verified all were 3 chip Analysis Maybe the serial numbers are assigned to cases, later also stuck on the box, and both are stamped with the Y/M when they pass QA. So ones that fail and are repaired will have out of order stamps? Maybe 2009309 had its entire board replaced? The out-of-order numbers seem to happen in the final months. Maybe supplies were so short that Atari repaired every unit they could that had previously failed QA, shipped them, and then shipped the prototypes JANs? Other sightings: LittleJoe has the only Rev 3 Atari I've ever seen, but efforts to contact him here and ebay failed. His email, youtube channel and website are gone. He stopped tweeting & posting on FB on 1/30/2017. May be deceased? http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/180077-atari-2600jr-unicorn/page__view__findpost__p__2261133 the.golden.ax had 1, sent it to Longhorn, I assume that's the # above, he was going to send it to Marty for a museum maiki has X 11A4 304699, sounds like a pal 3 namedjughead had one, but it died and is long gone. How many were made? All 2600 Jrs: 2,071,066+ made (assuming no overlap in serial numbers and assuming Ravenprose's number is real) 1-chips: 19,290 in the contiguous block of known 1-chips 2038237 to 2057527 32,830 counting 2038237 to 2071066, assuming it is real. 45,508 if we assume 2025559 is a 1-chip (optimistic) and assume 2071066 is real and count to it, and assume that 2009309 is a glitch 60,000+ if we count from 2009309 to 2071066 and assume the 2 3 s are glitches (very optimistic) This seems even less likely after finding 2011186 50,000 might be a good guess, as that's a nice round number of chips to order from a fabricator. Assumptions for all units listed: Long rainbow model Atari 2600 Junior Serial number format appears to be: A1 YM NNNNNNN Made in Taiwan in the year 198Y for 7-9 or 1990 Y=0, month M (1-9,A,B,C for Jan-Dec) Color of YM doesn't seem to matter. So far I've seen blue, green and black. NNNNNNN is the raw number of units made at that factory (I have no actual evidence of this) FCC ID EBA72R2600 NTSC (PAL units seem to have a different FCC ID, and maybe always start with X?) Board revisions spotted: 3-chip: NTSC: Rev A, B, C, D, E, F PAL: Rev F1 1-chip: Rev 3, 4 Chip version info Every chip I've seen from a Rev 4 board says: C101688-002 ATARI 1987 RP2A10 then the next line is slightly different, maybe they are batch numbers or something: 38 8L1 54 3? ?L2 43 38 8L1 43 38 8L2 49 38 8L2 48 The only chip from a Rev 3 board I've seen is different (photo is blurry and hard to read, guesses are in parens) : C101688-001 ATARI 1987 RP2A10 (3/2/1)4 7C(E/1/L/I) 5(2/7/1) Assumption is chip was made by Ricoh, as RP2A10 is similar to the NES chip RP2A03 Sources I pulled some of this data from a 2010 thread and by contacting owners directly. I figure if nothing else, collecting these numbers will let me figure out how many units they made in the final months. Right now it looks like in 9/89 they made >28000, but in the lower 20ks in Nov + Dec. Then maybe 15k by 3/99 falling to 11k by the end of the year and Jan 1990. +kheller2
You can ask the moderators to allow you to update the original post forever if need be. also make sure you are reading B vs 8 and 3 vs 5 correctly. I ran into a lot of ink smears and blurry faded numbers in the 1200XL list I maintain. And don’t expect the serials to be sequential but the can be an indicator of another error. the 7800 serials get really wonky in the latter years. +kheller2
yes A1 00 is after A1 98, so he should be interested. The number between A1 and the longer serial number is what determines the year and month.

I ran into a lot of ink smears and blurry faded numbers in the 1200XL list I maintain. And don’t expect the serials to be sequential but the can be an indicator of another error. the 7800 serials get really wonky in the latter years. Proof I didn't misread the Bs
skintigh
More serial number shenanigans... 97 2025558 is clearly 3-chip: 96 2009309 is clearly 1-chip?!?!?!? If true, that could potentially double the number of 1-chip models out there. I'll find out if it's really a 1-chip in about a week I bought it untested, wish me luck. +kheller2
I would suggest folks crack open the questionable units to really validate they are 1chip. I wouldn't trust the case cutouts for the POT as identification. On the 1chip version, is the POT hole (hah pothole) still there, and just the POT missing? It looks like just the POT is MIA, so that might be the best indicator w/o opening up units. Since you have two 9B units so close in serial... open them
